MONTREAL (CP) - A provincewide sweep of marijuana fields has netted police more than 60,000 pot plants and 71 arrests.

Quebec provincial police said Thursday the raids on 273 sites on Wednesday brought their biggest haul since they began the annual Operation Shears in 1999. More than 1,100 police from 23 different municipal forces, the RCMP and the provincial police took part.

About 104 kilograms of marijuana, 61,970 plants, three all-terrain vehicles, two trucks, a utility vehicle and a boat were seized. Also scooped up by police were a generator, hydroponics production equipment and $10,000.
