RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Medical marijuana is a burning topic in two local cities.

In Rancho Cordova, the City Council is considering a law to restrict the way legal users grow their pot.

The move stems from a neighbor's complaint. A woman said the pot being grown next to her is making her sick, and making her home a target of thieves.

Linda Kurtz said she has seen "unsavory-like people" scoping out her neighborhood looking for ways to steal the weed.

The council is still in the beginning stages of considering the new rules and is seeking public input.

Meanwhile, medical marijuana advocates said such a move would infringe upon people's rights.

Medical pot was also a big issue in Oakdale Monday night.

The police chief introduced a resolution that would ban any businesses that violate state or federal law.

Since the federal government does not allow any sort of pot, that would make marijauna dispensaries illegal in the town. California's Prop. 215 allows the state's residents to use pot as medicine.

However, federal drug agents said last year that they won't pursue pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers in California and other states that allow medical marijuana, under new legal guidelines issued by the Obama administration.
