Same Setup / different strains / 1 thriving 1 not

So these 2 plants will be my 4th/5th grow of the year. My previous 3 were bag seeds from a peanut butter kush... all grown in the same setup... produced very nice buds loaded in Trichomes (see photo of recent harvest). Setup details below.

3 x 3 tent
3 gal smart pots
Mars hydro TS 1000w LED
Vivosun 4” inline with carbon filter
FFOF mixed with perlite 2 parts perlite to 1 FFOF
Only nutes used so far is FF Grow Big

I thought I’d branch out and try ordering some seeds. I ordered white widow and ZDF(zombie death fuck) both feminized.

The ZDF popped no problem, but the first WW seed refused to germinate. Prior to this I germinated 100% of any bag seeds. I chalked it up as a bad seed and moved on with another WW. After a couple of days (still slow) this one exposed a tap root.

I have noticed that the WW has had some issues, which to this point I’ve only been able to guess either PH or mag issue but the weird thing is I’ve never had anything look like this in my setup. The WW seems discloloured and for being just a week younger than the ZDF seems very stunted in comparison.

I decided to try flushing both plants to see if that would make a difference and it does seem to be a slight improvement so far on new growth. The ZDF is thriving no matter. But the WW still seems off almost like a dwarf strain which is so strange to me since WW has been a tried and true strain for so long.

Wondering what all the masters think, is this a strain / genetic issue ? Strain specific nutrient issue ? Does WW require a different PH ? Any tips or feedback would be appreciated! Thanks friends.

Hey Tillyoudie,

Nice buddage! I will drop this one small nugget.... for soil grows - flushing is very seldom the right answer.

There are 2 different strains there - the chances are really good that they should grow at different paces. But yes, the coloring on leftie girl is off.

Suspect cal-mag def..... Only Grow Big.... can I ask why? I’d think you would want to follow FF’s guide since they built the system to work in unison.... but wow 2 parts perlite to 1 part FF... that’s not good. Kinda like putting water in your gas tank. I get better drainage but need some fuel to power that crop, I’ve always considered energy in the soil is better than energy in a bottle but I’m kinda thick headed that way.

this WW can be totally different from any other WW you have grown, under each strain there are dozens of phenotypes possible. They breed it to lock in traits but who knows what’s genetically expressed in a bean?

anywho that’s my 2 cents - as always see what else comes in

BTW’s that bud in the pic looks suspect... please don’t smoke that. Send it to me for further analysis! :cheesygrinsmiley:
Haha ya it’s been rocking my world that’s for sure.

In terms of the nutes I honestly watched and read a lot and seemed a lot of people don’t do the full line of products. A lot of what I read said cal/mag levels will be high enough from water alone, and like I said I’ve had 0 issues like this so far so it just struck me as odd.

I flushed just to try and see if it somehow got locked out. Someone suggested doing that first somewhere else, also I noticed the ZDF had signs of nitrogen toxicity I may have gone a bit heavy one day usually don’t have those issues either.

it seemed to improve some but still off ... here’s an updated photo now that I’ve finished the LST. Watered this morning so the ZDF is happy AF right now.
