The new democrats in B.C. are again embroiled in a leadership controversy, this time over the only candidate who has declared his intentions of taking the party's top job.

Marijuana activist Dana Larsen says he received an apology from party president Moe Sihota after Sihota declared that Larsen wasn't eligible to run for the leadership.

But Sihota denied he offered an apology calling Larsen "inaccurate," and says it's obvious Larsen knew he was wrong because the man went on line to renew his party membership right after being told he couldn't run.

Larsen fired back saying Sihota has a personal agenda and is overstepping his jurisdiction as the party president.

Larsen ran briefly for the federal NDP in the 2008 election, but resigned after video was released showing him smoking pot and taking L*D.

New Democrat executives meet Jan. 6 to decide the rules for contestants seeking to replace leader Carole James.
