Some Massachusetts Towns Give Up On Marijuana Enforcement

BOSTON (AP) - Some Massachusetts towns have given up enforcing the law that decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana, saying the law doesn't give them the means to enforce it.

The law established a new civil fine of $100 for those caught with an ounce or less of marijuana.

That replaced what had been a criminal offense carrying a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $500 fine, also for possession of an ounce or less of the drug.

But it does not require offenders identify themselves or face consequences for unpaid fines.

The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association says the gaps in the law have led to a patchwork of enforcement - with a number of communities effectively turning a blind eye to personal marijuana use.

Gee, common sense occasionally prevails. They are facing law enforcement financial crunches and see what a waste of resources it is to enforce even the $100 laws. This is an excellent start, but why not make it official NOW and enact legislation to just drop MJ from all law enforcement priorities?

Now if the Feds could just remove their collective heads from their collective butts, we could all sleep a little easier.

This outlines perfectly how the Police there run their department like a "Business"
This can and should be used to show how they are out for the money of it's tax paying bosses ie the tax paying voters, rather than.
Protecting and Serving.

This having been true, I almost wish they had not put this on the news.

If my experience is worth anything, I bet they will tighten up a bit after this news hitting the wire. Don't expect to walk around puffing in MA anytime soon.

Cautious is still the way to go IMHO.

Slowpuffer write up a piece and post it in the local papers online to the editors section or wherever it will receive the most views.
Email it to the teachers who were laid off.
That would bring the truth to those who do not know.
