timer question please help

230 volt timer for ballasts?

three wires and a ground is not common, the red one might be for something else, or for running a common to the timer, either case, DO NOT run a common for Ballasts, (solid state ballasts)

But some more details would be handy!!

can someone please help me wiring my timer, white, black, red and a copper wire.
Most of those mechanical timers are wired for 220v which sounds like the wiring you must have. 110v will only have 3 wires.
The timers come with a simple instruction sheet on how to wire it. Just use care and make sure the electricity is turned off before you start hooking it up. You can wire it for 220v in and 110v out to run your lights and eccesories.
