Traffic Busts Snare 101 Pounds of Marijuana

Nebraska - Two separate traffic stops in two days have led to the seizure of 101 lbs. of marijuana and the arrest of three individuals.

Around 9:30 a.m., Thursday, April 08, 2010, a trooper stopped an eastbound 1999 Ford F-250 pickup for speeding near the Airport Interchange on Interstate-80, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The trooper was given consent to search the pickup. The search resulted in the seizure of 91 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana was located in a hidden compartment beneath the pickup’s external gas tank.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup, Johnny S. Adams, 59, Leeds, Alabama, was lodged in the Lancaster County jail on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver.

A separate traffic stop near the same location on Interstate 80, on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, led to the seizure of nearly 10 lbs. of marijuana.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, a trooper stopped an eastbound 2008 Chevy Impala, for failure to signal a lane change. The trooper smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a probable cause search led to the seizure of 9.7 lbs. of marijuana.

The marijuana was located in two duffle bags in the trunk of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Kevin R. Humphrey, 24, Tomah, Wisconsin and a passenger in the vehicle Mark D. Moore, 24, Cuba City, Wisconsin, were both lodged in the Lancaster County jail each on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver.

I'm confused. Why would anyone give LEO the go to search the vehicle. Make em go get a warrant. It is your right to refuse the request to search.

Unfortunely, you might as well. The supreme court has gutted our 4th admement rights to illegal search in that they have ruled that while a traffice stop in and of itself is not grounds to conduct a search, the fact that you refuse allows them to call in the dogs to do a walk around. ?When the dogs hit on the cannabis, they then have probable to conduct a search
