VICTOR, Iowa - A routine truck inspection on Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa turned into a drug bust that netted 420 pounds of marijuana worth about $580,000, the Iowa State Patrol said Saturday.

Troopers from the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program stopped a semitrailer about 11 a.m. Friday for a routine inspection near the Victor rest area in Iowa County, the patrol said.

During the inspection, officials found a loaded handgun and the drugs, the patrol said.

The marijuana was in the sleeping compartment of the cab, officials said.

The driver, Arthur Strickland, 56, of Amarillo, Texas, was arrested on several charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Strickland remained in the Iowa County jail on Saturday. Bond was set at $149,500.
