Canada - Police seized an astonishing number of cultivated marijuana plants in two raids on Wednesday that began as tips from the public. More than 25,000 plants found in two locations were confiscated after a three-month investigation, said Constable Daniel Lacoursière. The police had heard from several citizens that there was a lot of suspicious activity at a commercial building on Chabanel St. near l'Esplanade Ave. in the Ahutsic-Cartierville area. When they raided the building on Wednesday armed with a search warrant, they found 8,000 plants in a hydroponic grow operation.

Lacoursière said that certain clues in that raid led them to another building, this time in St. Michel on 8th Ave. near Denis-Papin St. There they found an additional 17,000 marijuana plants, again growing hydroponically. Lacoursière said the street value of the seizures are in the "millions" of dollars and that there are links to organized crime. No arrest have been made as yet, he confirmed.
