Suspended Connecticut backup point guard Antonio Kellogg was arrested and charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, state police said Wednesday.

Kellogg and several other people were approached by police Sunday night while standing near a parked car in a wooded area behind an apartment complex, police said. Kellogg allegedly dropped a bag of marijuana on the ground in an effort to conceal it from a trooper who said he detected the smell of "burnt marijuana."

Sgt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police, said Kellogg cooperated with the trooper.

"He was very cooperative, very gentlemanly if you will," Vance said.

Kellogg, a freshman, played about 14 minutes a game this season, backing up Marcus Williams. He appeared in 29 games, scoring just over 3 points and dishing out about 2 assists per contest.

He was suspended from the team after the Big East tournament for a "violation of team policy."

Kellogg was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court April 13.
