Very Interesting Ballast Question

i was just wondering if anybody knows the answer to this question...

can you use a 600w bulb or lower in a 1000w ballast?

has anybody actually tried it? i know the speculation going both ways but im more interested in someone who has tried this' opinion...

well, i did a quick google search, and found the answer in another cannabis forum, and it they said that i can be done, BUT it will shorten the life and kill your bulb. so dont do it. you gotta have em match

i think i read that same journal i was more interested in someone who has done to see if that was true. thanks though...

i did find out for anybody interested that there is a digital ballast that has adjustable settings so you can switch from 1000 > 600 > 400 for about $350
