Water pocket in soil grow

Soon to be 3 month old plant which was recently transplanted from a 3 to 5 gallon container. After the transplant, I watered as I normally do and it seems there is a water pocket or the soil is maintaining a significant amount of water. Please help

Do you have enough drainage holes in the bottom of your new pot? Are the holes large enough?

What is your soil composed of? You could add perlite and/or vermiculite to increase drainage.

I would think its just a matter of fresh soil with no roots retaining water longer than youre use to.

More soil in pot equals more water to saturate to at least gain some run off, its really that simple
