Watering question

What does it mean when u water and a lot of it runs straight
through? is this normal?

The soil may have been very dry.

If it pulls away from the sides of the pot,

the water will run straight through

Well it may mean 1 of 2 things !


Peak moisture content of soil has been reached & can not hold any more water leading to run off...

Or soil is bone dry that it can not absorb water quickly enough leading to run off...


So it depends on state of soil prior to watering either wet enough or to dry !



If to dry it may take a few watering to gain moisture uptake, failing that stand in a dish/tray/bowl of water to rehydrate bone dry soil.
