I dont bother with a loupe or magnifying glass...Im old school with some things,,,I just know when my plants are done by looking,smelling and touching..also foliage starts to turn..etc. Its not scienific but it works for me and my patients.

double,triplet and even quadruple in a loupe refers to how many lenses are in the loupe to get that consistent clear magnification

I use one of those 60-100x pocket microscopes - the LED died on it though, and it does cause eyestrain. Wish I had a USB microscope.

I think there are pretty good ones under $100 - I remember seeing one by the same guys that make stash jars... can't remember the name though.

I use this magnifying glass very often.

This jewelers loupe is on Ebey for $5 to $7.00.

This loupe for looking at slides and 35 mm film is $ 7 to $8 on amazon.com

I bought this microscope at Radio Shack for $11 in 2007, it is $ 13 to $ 14 now.

You can find this on the internet for $20.

Amazon has for like 70 bucks and up with decent reviews but looks to be a lil over kill for trich examining
