hey dudes,

welcome to my journal. we (my mum and I) have some plants i thought it would be nice to share our story with you guys as you have helped us so much, we have gained most of our knowlege from you all.

we have two strains, skunk#11 (mums choice) and violator kush (my choice). we are using the sun as our source of energy, our medium is soil (bio bizz light mix), nuets are vitalink grow and bloom. we are still new to growing and need plenty of help and advice. below are some pics with the ladies names and what stage they are are at.

1st up is Amelia - Skunk#11 at about 8 weeks of flower grown from seed

Twisted sister - Skunk#11 at 2 weeks of flower grown from seed
IMG-20120608-00224.jpg

Sparsey - a clone from Amelia, 2 weeks of flower
IMG-20120608-00222.jpg

Pisa - a clone from Amelia, 2 weeks of flower
IMG-20120608-00221.jpg

Loppy - a clone from Amelia, 2 weeks of flower
IMG-20120608-00223.jpg

these are group two of the clones (skunk#11) and yet to have names but they will come in the next few day as they have jsut started their 12/12 schedel
IMG-20120608-00209.jpg

these are group 3 of the clones (skunk#11) and where cloned 2 weeks ago

Baby vk 2 - 10 days old from seed

and a group shot
IMG-20120608-00228.jpg

our aim is to keep one of the vk as a mum until next season, and the other we will take some clones but she will be out on 12/12 when she hits 14" or so.

I do have some issues in our garden, i'm not use to chem nuets and have caused some burn on the girls but also today i noticed we have a Thrips problem but not all is doom and gloom as the stable my mum has, has a large amount of ladybug larva and tomorrow morning im going to collect some tropps. The half eaten leafs are due to having 3 cats. also i have a question about some strange leaf curling/bending on Loppy.
IMG-20120608-00227.jpg
any and all advice welcome and i hope you stay tuned

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

morning all,

operation recruit the troops was a succes, i collected well over 50 of them and they have now started their search and destroy all enemy targets mission. as far as i can tell they are all the 7 dot ladybugs larva
IMG-20120609-00232.jpg

good bye thrips

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

nice garden you have going. i have never grown outdoors, do not have the option where i live currently but the size of the plants is great.

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

cheers Fuzi, its a 1st for me. I have done a couple of indoor grows but the cost of running the lights has always been an issue and i dont have to worry about that now, Im excited to see how the meds compare

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

high peeps,

today we started the flush of Amelia, i took some shots of a few of her bud sites, my camera and my skills using one isnt that great.
the 1st pic has the 1 only and only redish calyx on her. most strange but pretty

IMG-20120610-00244.jpg

i was shocked to see though, you can actually see amber colored trichomes with a few of these shots.

so we plan to flush Amelia for a week and end also keep her in the dark for 3 days. ive heard this is meant to increase tricgome production. is there anyone out there who could confirm this 1 way or the other, cheers.

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

Heres a quote I found:

"The Stichting Institute of Medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmacies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis, together with TNO laboratories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."

Overall really mixed reviews. Noticed many people say it works for some strains and not others. If you plan on running the same strain for a while cut some at the end, some at 24 and the rest at 48. A lot of people say that it really doesn't do much though.

think i will that a go

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

Nice Grow :thumb: your results outside are great IMO Better than indoors under light for sure....and it is free...Nice!

:thanks: IGrowGrass, i'm pleased with how its going so far and it does feel good not having to for the energy but i do feel a lil envious of a decent indoor setup. just had a flick your grow and thats what i'm talking about. keep up the good work dude.

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

oh i forget, think the leaf curling is a ph issue. got a liquid test kit, i know they are not great but better than nothing and its all i can afford at the moment. our water was reading and 8.5 which i was shocked at. and cause im a cheap bastard i didnt buy the acid the dude suggested i thought lemon juice would work well and 1/5 of the cost per litre. looked at a ph chart and lemon juice is more as acidic than sulphuric acid anyways. top tip, well i think so unless theres a good reason not to use lemons that is...

Re: Balcony grow - skunk#11 and violator kush at several stages

high to all,

bho plan didnt get the go ahead, where i am the local stores only stocked 65ml cans and they want $2.50 per can so that will have to wait.

had to bring the harvest up to friday, had work for the 1st time in 6 months. felt good to be working even if was on the weekend. so its been 4 days and i think another day then in to jars for curing, stems are just about snapping. i have to say impressed with the quality of the high. DP advise that the Skunk#11 only has 8.1% THC. ive only been in charge of this grow for 5 weeks now and this was our 1st harvest and ive not smoked since 04/20 and im finding it have a great buzz. its been 3 years since i last grew my own meds so i have been putting up with crap you get from that guy you know. always the same not quite dry forget being cured that could have gone on a few weeks more. well this stuff is great and i have missed my homegrown herb.

not sure if any of the above makes a lot of sense but i have sampled the furits of our labour.

Twisted Sister, Pisa, Loppy and Sparsey seem to have N deficiency, i know its normal for the to have yellow leafs in flower but these 3 have only been in 12/12 for 24 days... think i will add some grow nutes indstead of bloom 4-1-4 @ 3 mls per litre of water 3/4 strength for tomorrows feed.

i for the 1st time attempted to FIM 5 of the ladies, the 2 baby vk and the last 3 clones to go into flower. i did it on saturday moring not sure if i did it though or if i just butchered them. couldnt really get focus on the tops, poor camera skills.

ive got the baby vk(now 21 & 22 days from seed) and the 6 3rd gen clone on 1ml of 4-1-4 per litre of water 1/4 strength. the last 3 clones to go 12/12 are on 2-2-4 @ 3mls per litre of water 3/4 strength. these 3 ladies are looking really lively.

Wow that amelia had one hell of a cool look to it! like the balcony outdoor, get energy from the sun idea! welcome! :Namaste:

cheers dude, she smokes pretty cool too :bigtoke: i think you probably get more consitant weed under MNH/HPS but quality is definitly right up there with them

thanks for stopping by airblasted

been a couple of weeks since my last update... well theres been some change. we are all organic now, not to the extent i want but its a start. my vison is to follow in the foot steps of 420mags very own DocBud (trust you wanna check this guy out, his journals are great and the results are even better). i now have managed to soucre most of pieces to a HIGH BRIX way of growing but i have to wait a few weeks as my sister is having to fly them out to me. where i am, no one knows anything about organics and seem to have no idea what soil conditioners are. it seems like im talking a different language to the locals.

so here what i have so far

A lil air pump for some tea
IMG-20120628-00408.jpg

a few buckets for brewing tea and dechlorinating tap water
IMG-20120628-00409.jpg

i also got some humus but when i got back sort of noticed i live in the middle if a forrest. doh
IMG-20120628-00412.jpg

local forest humus
IMG-20120628-00424.jpg

organic peat
IMG-20120628-00423.jpg

horse and cow manure
IMG-20120628-00421.jpg

dired blood
IMG-20120628-00411.jpg

Diamond Nectar - Fulvic Acid to use in my teas
IMG-20120628-00399.jpg

Ca and Mg
IMG-20120628-00400.jpg

here my organic soil mix - biobizz light mix 60%, organic peat 10%, humus 10%, local forest humus 10%, horse and cow manure 10% and dried blood 0.001%
IMG-20120628-00410.jpg

ive only made one tea so far and i think it was a success,
IMG-20120628-00426.jpg

12 litres of dechlorinated tap water
2 hand fulls of my organic soil mix
2 tbls of molasses
20 ml of diamond nectar
and the secret ingredient
IMG-20120628-00413.jpg

a couple of sore hands full of stinging nettles

im about to start brewing another tea in a bit, i dont have any kelp but i want to make a more fungi tea... i have read somewhere that fungi like rolled oats when powdered so i ground up 1 tbls of oats, mixed it with some of local humus and some water, stored in a dark closet. i did this 5 or so days ago, hopefully its ready.

i think its already had impact on our garden with what i have got and done just cant wait to get the rest of the pieces. this is what should be arriving with my sis -
horticultural gypsum micro granuals
Compost Activator/Maker - lots of microbes and fungi
Fish Blood & Bone Meal
Carbonate of Lime
Calcified Seaweed - claims to be 40% calcium
soft rock phosphate
Trace Elements Micro Granular Trace Elements
Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate)

i have a few pics of the ladies too, some where taken just before their 1st tea and the rest taken 4 days after. 34 days from cuttings
this was our best performing clone but i dropped a tub on her and now she is no longer with us, RIP
IMG-20120628-00393.jpg

this one is my fav out of the clones, been topped here

turns out i my attempt FIM really failed all i managed was to damage some leaves, i at 1st thought i cut a leaf off without noticing on The Wench but i think its a strange dispoistion that shes got as on the oppersite side skippy a node she has a node a again with one leaf and only one side branch...

nearly forgot, got a microscope not very good but effective still, only problem its not easy to get a photo though ive got two so far not very good but i will keep trying. what i was amazed at is the whole plant is covered in thc but its only on the buds where you get the mushroom top on them.

high folks,

pleased to report, haven't seen any Thrips for about a week or so now:thumb:. I did find another caterpillar yesterday, only appears to have caused very minor damage this time. That's one of the main reasons I found the HIGH BRIX way so appealing, our plants subject to pests of the great outdoors and I don't to use any horrible pesticides on the ladies to get rid of the lil beasties, plus prevention sounds better to me any how. When you achieve a Brix rating of 12% or more garden pest leave your plants alone. Something to do with the sugar turning into alcohol inside the beasties so if they do munch on the plants they dihydrate and die.

Turns out one of the items I'm getting my sister to bring me, the Soft Rock Phosphates is in fact just organic rock dust which I'm pretty sure will be more like seers rock dust which is a trace mix but I've managed to find some SRP now and I'm sure the rock dust will be very handy anyways.

I've given the ladies the brew I made which I hope was a more fungi filled one and later when the temps have dropped a bit I'm gonna foliar feed with the diamond nectar. Tomorrow I will post some pics.

stay high

Tremendous looking plants!

:thumb:

Curious how you manage the day length, or am I being dumb?

cheers ajagunle, to be fair I haven't mentioned it so my bad. At 21:00 I pick up the pots and carry em to a spare room thats completely dark and then 09:00 they get to bath in the sun, the girls that still in veg i just leave out on the balcony.

Thanks for stopping by.

Looking good I hope that twisted sister turns out great for a good harvest

Jayloco94, me too. She a strange one, my mum started her from seed 01/01/12 same day as Amelia and when I arrived (7 weeks ago) to take charge of the growing she was about 2ft tall but had only grown on one side. My mum was gonna write her off but I said we should tie her down and see how she fares, now she appears to be forming the best buds out of this group. she also has a slightly different smell, less skunky and more like candyfloss which has led my mum to believe it might not be a skunk#11 as she has grown this strain for 3 seasons now and Twisted sister is the 1st that has looked and smelt this and my mum reckons all the other skunk#11 have been like Amelia to the t.

cheers guys for the kind words

:Namaste:
