I've used 2 or 3 different ones. I don't think it matters as long as you rinse and pre charge it.

I got my coco from amazon. Coco Bliss by plantonix. I got 2 10lb bags. It makes ALOT of medium.

You will know if the filter is working when the plants start flowering.....they get stinky pretty quick.
