fair point mate, but i speak from my experience growing several thousand plants. i find even with adequate drainage the soil can hold onto alot of water, depending on the make up of the soil. Perlite definately helps to aerate but its still possible to get a wetter lower part of pot. using a medium that doesnt hold moisture at the bottom stops this happening and allows extra oxygen ito the roots which is always a bonus.
