Hey guys. I'm away to start my first hydroponics grow in around a week. I've been reading up on it for a month or so now and think I have it pretty much figured out, well.. the basics anyway. I'm just not sure about nutrition amount, ppm etc as there seems to be alot of conflicting info on the internet. I've attached a picture with the nutrients I've bought. Should I go by label amounts? Starting off around 200ppm and working up? Are all these nutrients good to go together? Thanks guys!

Listen to your plants, they'll tell you what they need. What form of hydroponics will you use; DWC, ebb and flow, aeroponics, or coco/perlite? I use the GH Flora trio with GH supplements in coco/perlite.

Your first concern should be what form of hydroponics you can support. I'm on a well. I cannot get enough water from the well to support DWC. I found this out after I had built my DWC system. The water from my well is heavily laden with minerals, so I had to use an RO filter. Another concern is the stability of your electrical supply. A power failure of a day or longer can kill off your crop with an extended shutdown of your air and water pumps. Coco/perlite grows are exempt from this as that medium retains water, and can be hand-watered if needed.

With coco/perlite grows I don't have to be concerned about TDC/EC other than checking my RO monthly. PH is only a concern when I mix a batch of nutrients, as this is drain-to-waste, not a recirculating system. There's no need to monitor and adjust TDC/EC/pH daily. I just add the nutrients to fresh water, and adjust pH for a new batch every 4 to 7 seven days, and I'm done.

Start with less than 1/2 strength nutrients. I started at 25%, and am up to 40% at some stages of growth. Your plants will tell you if your mix is too weak or strong. This is my fourth grow with different strains. Harvest in a 2 x 4 grow tent has been 5oz, 7.5oz, and 8.4oz in my previous grows.

I strongly suggest starting a grow journal here, with weekly updates including pictures. This will allow members to monitor your progress, and make informed suggestions if you have problems. Good luck with your endeavour.

Read my how to grow in coco feed schedule thread, it applies pretty much to all hydroponics.

Never go off the bottle, use a ppm/ec meter when ever you mix nutes, this way you have a record and any issues can be very quickly fixed. You also need a ph pen.

For nutrients they should be hydro specific but if you plan to grow in coco you must use coco specific nutients as it has a different demand than other hydroponic methods.

Are you using tap water or ro water? ro water should be a last resort as it can cause problems of its own but some people have no choice but to use ro water. What type of light source will you use as this matters also.

More info will help alot. Im a hydroponic specialist with years of growing and thousands of plants behind me and i see a lot of bad advice when it comes to growing in hydroponics. (Not saying anyone in this thread is doing such, just in general).
