The significance for me would be the ability to get the ballast heat out of the grow room. As well as reducing the weight of the reflector/light assembly. Mine weighs over 20lbs without a ballast.

'Integrated ballasts' (sales talk) are noisy, create heat issues, and are less versatile than remote ballast lights.
In the store they look handy and ready to work. Miss-placed macho quiets complaints when you pick that heavy bit.. up.
