Three Strains, First Grow: Maui Wowie, LA Confidential & NYC Diesel

Who said, “growing good weed isn’t easy?”

Everyone. Pretty sure, every single person said that. And I made a mistake right out of the gate!

My setup- (I’ll try to price this out if your thinking of starting out.)

I started with a 3x3x6 ft. indoor grow tent. $80

The Patriot Mix Pack (420)
Maui Wowie, LA Con., and NYC Diesel.
15x seeds $130

i have a 1000w LED multifunction light, on a Bluetooth Smart Timer. $75

Air purifier, dehumidifier, variable in-line exhaust Fan (18” carbon filter.) 2 small clip fans. $250 (I had everything but the in-line.) in-line w/filter and controller. $120

I have 2 thermometers and hygrometers in and outside the tent. These are accessible with my phone. $30

I have 3- 3.5 gallon pots (start to finish.)
I have a Bluetooth soil monitor which gives me the soil temp, nutrient reading, moisture content, and light intensity sensor.

My first mistake, is where this journal starts up.

Growing medium. DAMNIT! To have a good grow I only got 4 jobs- Light, water, air, and growing medium.

My medium is just topsoil. And it’s not even good topsoil, it’s got way to much clay and at 5 weeks, I’m growing little miniature mmj plants.

My next update will come when I put the plants in something the roots can stretch out and breath in.

Oh, yeah. The soil monitor was $30. Pretty much everything can be found on amazon except seeds.

I also wanted to thank “OldSmokey,” and the other Canadian guy for the advice on dumping the soil and getting a specific growing medium, not just top soil. Especially not the crap I got. Glad I joined the site and learned before the little tricks were too hard to move.

Update:

I repotted the 3 plants and we’ll see how it goes.

I’m going to name the plants for reference. Remember, I have 3 strains. I’m going to try (when they’re done) to guess which is which strain.

This is “Squirt.”

He (ignore the pronoun) came out of the gate like nothing. He popped on the wet paper towel but when I planted him I didn’t even know if he was going to come up, he took forever. But then he popped the soil and popped up bigger than the rest. He’s not doing well though. After the transplant, he’s fallen almost all the way over at the second node.

This is “First Time”

She came up the best, she’s been overall the most easy to deal with of the children. She’s doing good a little while after the repot, but she’s had this bite out of her head... it looks like someone cut a piece off her! She’s healing quickly though. Love that little shit!

This is the little negative asshole of a plant that no matter what you do for her she’s always moping the fuck around.

But... by the looks of her currently, she seems to like her new property. Maybe now she’ll calm the fuck down.

One other thing, I added another 600w led I had. Hopefully that will add a little light intensity.

These girls are 5 weeks old and little as hell...watch your grow medium kids, if your plants get root bound, they grow very slowly if even at all.

(BTW I’ve never grown more than an erection, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.)

Did you water the seedling when you transplanted?

Do you have something you can use for a dome for the droopy girl? If you didn't do it when you transplanted her lightly water her as Pennywise said above. Not too much water. A little goes a long way. I always keep some clear 2 liter bottles handy to use as domes. Just cut the top off where the tapering stops. Use a spray bottle to mist the inside sides of the plastic bottle and put it over the plant.

These were actually already transplanted from domes and that one was ready to be topped, but my medium had too much clay and they weren’t growing much. I repotted them into a new medium.

if you look at the before pics she’s the back left plant. It was doing better than any of them.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to put her back under a dome to see if it helps.

I’ll try that, I did have them at about 72F for a while today. Squirt looked good before that, he actually looked amazing, I would’ve rolled his ass up but had some Triangle Mintz instead (probably why I’ve been searching about growing mmj for 3 hours.) Thanks for your advice!

Yes I’d use a dome until her roots get reestablished. Almost looks like a clone in a dry environment.

It is also possible that she got a touch overwatered in which case she should start looking better as the soil evaporates. Plants that small actually grow better if you water lightly and water making a ring about 3 inches out from the stalk. Make her roots seek out the water.

I didn’t know that! I slowly watered the soil until it dripped out of the pot using my sprayer. I even thought about that, but had heard you water at the base. I saw that on “This Old House” (questions and answers.)

I don’t appreciate that fat prick on “this old house” anymore. What’s he know about growing marijuana!? He might could grow the hell out of a rose or bush, but he can kiss my whitish ass.
