Watering Aloe Vera

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to tell if an aloe plant needs water?
I got it to use the gel for cloning and occasionally to add to my water as a bit of a boost for the plants, but this is the first succulent I've ever tried to grow and I don't want to rot the roots.

Aloe is tough, let it go pretty dry, then water. Of course if it starts to "wrinkle" it needs water. Should be plump looking.

Like pot, aloe likes its roots to dry out between waterings. It will handle a much longer "between" though because it stores water. Like Phyto said, they start looking withered or emaciated when they need water.

Water very little, once a month or less. The leaves will thicken as they store water. Dont water until they get thin. I've had this one over a year now.
Have you seen them flower?
