Aquarium carbon filters .. any good?

I'm looking at ordering some carbon filter pads online to build a filter for my grow box. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried using the filters from aquarium/pet stores? They are meant to be used for water of course, but has anyone been successful using them in a grow closet?

I live in a private rental property and I have an inspection coming up in a month or so (uh-oh) so I need a filter before then
My plan if I don't have a filter by then is to simply shut-down my grow box during the inspection, lights and fans off, and air out my house at the crack of dawn. Also just spray some air-freshener/odour neutraliser around the place so hopefully she won't pick up on it!

Any tips?

I'd use a couple pads
and add about an inch or better of loose charcoal between them.
Being designed for water,
they should be coarse enough to give you plenty air flow.

Cheers mate. Grr I was hoping for a way to build a filter without using loose charcoal, but I don't see it happening. Ah well

You can,
just get better filtering if there is more area surface.

Gotcha. I did price some nice carbon filters at the hydro shop LOL I wont be getting anything from there, not unless I need something for like a 40 plant setup Maybe when I'm an old man.
