Bernie Sanders Introduces Bill Ending The Federal Ban On Marijuana

Just wanted to drop in and say thank you to everyone for keeping the discussion so civil & upbeat! Political discussion can get crazy sometimes so it's nice not to see any mudslinging going on.

:cheer:

I've been trying to cover individual candidates as their opinions come out so as not to show any bias. I won't be sharing my vote though as my political persuasions are all over the place and I haven't done near enough research.

Interesting note: My father is a hardcore, life-long Republican and is voting for Hillary. It's going to be a crazy one, folks!

I agree with you saying how we are keeping this civil. This is yet another reason why 420magazine is awesome. I can think of a few other places where this topic would have been locked by now

Yes, and certainly some credit should be given to cannabis itself. It helps us to see past our egos and be more open to others without being defensive and aggressive. It calms the "savage beast" in us without the chemical lobotomizing of psychoactive pharmaceuticals. It actually enhances consciousness and sharpens the intellect so that we can see and feel more of the big picture of reality.

That is why I stick to :420: Everyone is helpful, insightful, and respectful. You know, I think they purposely make politics a bit of a reality show this year. It might be the trump factor, Hillary's benghazi scandal, or the democratic socialist with utopian promises. One thing is for sure though, Cannabis is here to stay and furthermore cannabis is probably one of the best resources on this planet.

While some of you mentioned and are right about the fact that there are many other issues that need to be addressed in this country for sure, we all need to stand behind any potential candidate that takes this approach because there's also the fact is that the end of this needless and costly war on a plant will have such a wide range of positive effects that it certainly needs to be at the top of the list of priorities at the federal level.

Revenue alone should be enough to end Marijuana prohibition but just think about the bigger picture of how much time and money will be freed up to focus on other issues, like slowing down or maybe even stopping the hard drug trade into this country which could potentially choke out funding for radical Islam groups who rely on h@roin production to conduct operations. Just think about all the money that will be saved in keeping innocent nonviolent offenders from going to prison as well as putting all those Americans back into the work force. How about the high cost of health care the can be reduced by making Cannabis available as a source of viable medicine throughout this whole country on top of creating healthier happier people. Think about Hemp production and all the benefits of that wonderful plant, and the list goes on and on...

So yes, we should certainly give our support to ANY candidate or representative that want's to put an end to Cannabis prohibition on the federal level as well as state levels of government. How can we afford not to?

This war has got to end, period! We have got to support ANY efforts made to end it!

Hey 420 warrior ,
I completely agree with you that this war needs to end and end NOW. My only concern at this juncture in time is, who is really going to follow through with this campaign promises and who is merely saying what we all want to hear so we will vote for them, then once in office do what they intended to do all along. You will have to forgive me if I do not have much faith in promises made by politicians. Look at Bill Clinton, many of us thought that he would take a stand against the unjust-ices of the prohibition on drugs, especially since he smoked it himself, though he never would confess that he actually inhaled. How about our current president? He said he wanted to wait for scientific proof, ok, what the hell is he waiting for now? There is scientific proof, hell there has been since Nixon. This injustice will not go away until one thing happens, and while I wish I could say it was we the people make our voices clear and loud, its not. It will happen when the money grubbers figure out how to profit from it the most and pocket the lions share of the wealth it creates. The unfortunate facts of how America operates, sad, but none the less, true.

Your so right brother, politicians are notorious liars and have always used misinformation to obtain votes. I think there needs to be a way to hold them accountable for what they say and make them to stick to their promises? It's like when Obama said the DEA would stay out of states affairs where MMJ was concerned and then turned right around almost immediately and sent his attack dogs in to raid dispensaries, what the hell was that all about? Why would he say he wouldn't do that then do it anyway?

Personally I've always been the kind of guy that says what he means and means what he says and if I make a promise, I tend to stick to it to the best of my ability and if something happens that prevents me from it, there's a very good reason for it, some times things just don't work out no matter how hard we try or want them too but that's not the case with these people, they hold all the power and can make their promises into reality just by signing on the dotted line and giving the order to carry out the will of the people.

I remember when Jimmy Carter was president and said he wanted to decriminalize Cannabis then turned right around and let congress have the final say without putting up any kind of a fight. Cannabis prohibition could have ended right then and there if he would have just pushed the issue a little bit harder. We wouldn't even be having this conversation right now if he wouldn't have just wimped out and gave up without a fight. So here we are, many years later with people still suffering and rotting away in prison over a harmless plant.

I think we all need to be writing these people and letting them know that we are counting on them to stick to their word on these issues and that we'll be watching and ready to vote them right back out of office if they don't stick to what they promise us. We will start petitions and campaigns against them and do everything in our power to make their lives a living hell if we think for one minute that what they promise is all just smoke and mirrors.

I have been giving some thought about starting a new thread in the "Activist Corner" forum here and form up a group of 420 Magazine activists to start up petitions and write letters to politicians as well as getting the word out around the site and publicly as well. I'd like to have printable business cards and flyers made available for us to distribute to anyone who shows interest as a way for us to give back to this website we love so much and as a way to grow our numbers beyond our politicians control. We could lead the way in this fight if we could just get everyone here involved and active. What do y'all think guys? Do any of you support this idea?
