The regional narcotics squad seized about 2 1/2 pounds of high quality marijuana that came into the FedEx distribution center in town.

FedEx notified the East Central Narcotics Task Force last week that they had received a suspicious package shipped from California, Manchester police Sgt. Richard Grimaldi, the task force supervisor, said Thursday. The package contained five vacuum-sealed plastic bags with a total of 2.4 pounds of marijuana, Grimaldi said.

The package was addressed to a home in the drug enforcement unit's jurisdiction, Grimaldi said, but he would not disclose the location because the investigation is continuing. The squad works to stop illegal drug use and sales in Manchester, South Windsor, Glastonbury and Vernon. No arrests have been made, Grimaldi said.

Marijuana sells for $1,500 to $3,500 per pound in the state, depending on quality, and the seized pot was at the higher end of the scale, Grimaldi said.
