A 24-year-old Farmington man's attempt to replicate some of his favorite marijuana plants in his downtown back yard has landed him in trouble with the law.

Agents from the Dakota County Drug Task Force searched Matthew Snyder's downtown Farmington home May 20. Snyder wasn't home at the time, but his mother, who lives in an adjoining house, was.

According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney's office, agents found 265 marijuana plants in a wheelbarrow and on the ground in the yard. Agents also found a digital scale and bongs for smoking marijuana in Snyder's bedroom and other items of drug paraphernalia around the home.

Snyder's mother told agents she knew the marijuana plants were in the yard and had asked her son to remove them. According to the complaint, Snyder later admitted growing the plants and said the plants were seeds of good marijuana he had smoked.

All told agents found 43.78 grams of marijuana.

If convicted on a fifth degree drug charge Snyder could face up to five years in jail and fines of up to $10,000. A petty misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia has a maximum fine of $300.
