High School Teacher Tasered by Bartow Police and Arrested for Drug Possession

A high school teacher was Tasered by a Bartow police officer and arrested on marijuana possession charges after a traffic stop Monday, police said.

Bradley Gummow, 33, is a teacher at Bartow High School assigned to teach International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement students, according to police.

About 10:50 a.m., an officer made a traffic stop of Gummow's vehicle at Polk Street and Baker Avenue. Police said an officer saw a plastic object in Gummow's mouth, and the teacher resisted by trying to pull away from the two officers.

One of the officers used a Taser to stun Gummow, police said.

At that point he spit out a plastic bag that held five individual bags containing marijuana, with a total weight of 4.7 grams, according to police.

Gummow was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, resisting an officer without force or violence, and violation of probation stemming from a previous charge of reckless driving involving alcohol.
