Homemade compost

Hey there

I'm gonna go check out my local nursery today to see what growing medium they have but i also make my own compost in the back. Can i use this to grow with? Like mix this with other growing soil or just the compost. I have read that homemade compost might have too high nutrient content and this can kill seedlings. How true is this?

Compost in bottom 1/5th solo cup and top rest of cup with good quality seedling mix is what I've seen done.

Would like to hear from soil person. I hope to do this in summer when I can compost.

thanks will keep that in mind. will see what is available at the nursery and post here again. i generally use my compost for the rose garden and they love it.

A balanced, home compost is a wonderful thing. However, I would not recommend using it for seedlings at all. They already have all they need within them. Rich soil will kill them. I mix in about a third of home compost when potting on.

okay just got back from nursery,here is what they have

first pic is of plant nutrients. which one of the three would be the best option?

the second pic is fertilizers and such. Which of the 6 is needed if any? they also have normal potting soil but i forgot to take a pic of that.

any input will be greatly appreciated
