House Bill Gives Legislature Control Of Medical Marijuana

A bill under consideration at the statehouse stipulates that only the legislature has the authority to allow marijuana to be used for medical purposes. Representative Jarad Klein, a Republican from Keota, urged members of the House to vote for the bill.

"I believe this is an important act for the legislature to take under," Klein says. "We are accountable to the people and I believe that's what this bill really goes at the heart of is who has the authority."

In the past few years the Iowa Board of Pharmacy has debated the issue of medical marijuana and considered putting it on their list of controlled substances which can be dispensed with a prescription, but has never taken that final step.

The bill would forbid the board from allowing medical marijuana prescriptions in Iowa. "The intent of this piece of legislation is clarify that only the legislature shall have the discretion to move marijuana from a Scheduled I controlled substance to a Schedule II controlled substance," Klein says.

The bill passed the House this week on a 71 to 24 vote. It now goes to a senate committee for consideration.
Marijuana is illegal in the United States, but 18 states and the District of Columbia have passed laws to permit marijuana to be prescribed as a treatment for symptoms like pain and nausea that are often associated with chronic and fatal illnesses.

Here is the prroblem my conservative friends...

Iowa will rot.

Just as there has been white flight, the world is witnessing green flight. Young, talented, intelligent students will choose colleges outside of Iowa, and ultimately reside where there is the most freedom. Where there is freedom, there is prosperity. Iowa will be left with succeeding generations of fewer and fewer people driving the local economy. Fewer tech and fewer professionals.

And fewer farmers.

Corporate farms will have to bring in guest workers, who will also bring in the weed. If cannabis remains illegal, Iowa prisons will be full and the treasury empty. A growing tax base is the only thing that will save municpalities, and this nation. Top officials know this. It is one reason the most educated states in the union, MA and CO, are tripping over themselves to get ahead of the green flight.

In short, cannabis must be legal to save the best and the brightest from moving to where it is.

I think all non medical states feel this way.Just pack up and leave
the idiots and let them see whats up. We have no one here to arrest.

yup i was about to move out of az had been reading up on laws and markets,rents,property values, i was liquidating assets, then i came up and passed and i got to stay home, but my need for this medicine was increasing and almost left, i know other ppl in non states are thinking this and are moving its time it be legal again, we tried prohibition and its failed and hurt more ppl than it even thought it might help,
