How does DWC work?

I would like to know if anyone could explain the way DWC operates? I saw it in a journal here for clones and it seemed like it was very effective.

DWC is just a fancy way of saying...bubbler. Stick a net pot into the top of a 5 gallon bucket. Add a medium and plant to the net pot and solution and air diffuser to the bottom bucket. Keep the solution within a inch of the net pot until the roots grow into the bottom bucket. The air diffuser splashes the solution onto the net pot which keeps the medium moist and feeds the plant. It's probably the easiest way to grow hydro. I add a drip system to mine and end up with a drip/bubbler.
