My mother almost died?

I have a big mother. I have had her for about 5 months. She was doing great until one day ( happened over night) I came in she was 80 percent dead. I figured out that i over watered her. I trimmed the dead branches off and left the 20 percent of her that was still alive...whats left looks good now...my question is: should I transfer the old soil to new soil? Are the old dead roots going to contaminate the good roots?

Light root prune, then repot with new soil
Good luck

How do you know the status of the roots... did you look? Chances are that the roots are fine.
No need to stress the plant further if she is on the mend... you could repot but be careful to not upset the roots you have working for you and then make things worse!

ilynnboy is right though, if need be, pop her, scratch her roots up a lil and replace the lost soil w/new!
