UK - Police officers swooped on an address in St Bees Walk, in Hartlepool, after they were tipped-off by paramedics who had been to the house only hours earlier to treat a man with an injured leg.

The ambulance crew became suspicious after smelling the strong and
distinct odour of cannabis in the house, in the Burbank area, during a call-out at 3.40am yesterday.

After treating and dropping their casualty off at hospital, they phoned the police and officers arrived just over four hours later to find 30 plants.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug and is being questioned by police.

Inspector Lee Rukin, of Hartlepool Police, said: "Paramedics had attended an address, as a result of which police attended the same address after the ambulance crew became suspicious because of smells in the premises.

"Officers attended and subsequently recovered approximately 30 plants.
"This shows how the emergency services work together and how important information is in the fight against crime."

Insp Rukin added that police are keen to hear from anyone who knows or have suspicions about drug activity in the town.

He added: "Whether it's drugs use or drugs supply, we want to know what is happening.

"Any intelligence we receive will see robust and swift action taken to make sure drug activity is not allowed in the town.
