Investigators are searching for three men suspected of robbing a medical marijuana growing operation in the Columbia Falls area while impersonating federal drug agents.

Three men impersonating U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents entered a home in the 100 block of Toftum Lane about 2 p.m. Sunday and used zip-ties to restrain the 30-year-old man and the 39-year-old woman inside, according to Flathead County Undersheriff Pete Wingert.

The alleged victims told investigators that the men who had black vests with the word Police stenciled on the back and were armed with semi-automatic handguns flashed what appeared to be some type of badge or credentials.

The suspects, who reportedly wore black clothes but nothing over their faces, were not law enforcement officers of any kind, said Wingert, emphasizing that the Sheriffs Office takes cases involving officer impersonation very seriously.

After spending about 10 minutes on the property, the three suspects escaped with 27 mature marijuana plants, more than $1,000 in cash, a rifle and a derringer pistol, Wingert said.

Investigators are operating under the assumption that the grow operations owner, who did not report the robbery until noon Monday, is a legitimate medical marijuana caregiver licensed by the state, Wingert said.

Medical marijuana was legalized in Montana in a 2004 referendum. Caregivers are allowed to grow no more than six plants or to possess no more than one ounce of usable marijuana per licensed patient and must register with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Citing confidentiality laws, department officials declined Wednesday to confirm whether the alleged victims of Sundays robbery were licensed caregivers.

Medical marijuana illegal under federal law is classified by the U.S. Department of Justice as a Schedule I drug, which means it cannot be prescribed by any health-care professional. The Montana law only permits doctors to recommend medical marijuana for certain patients and allows patients and caregivers to grow it for private use.

When captured, the men responsible for the heist could face a slew of felony charges, including robbery, theft, drug possession, and impersonating a police officer, Wingert said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Flathead County Sheriffs Office Detective Division and the Northwest Montana Drug Task Force.

With the end of prohibition this would not happen. Pure madness.

this happens all over the country, the targets never file complaints, they just move and setup shop elsewhere...
you'd be surprised how many of the dea/swat guys rob drug houses and grow houses for money and goods...
how else do you think they can afford to have those big houses, parties and vacations on the salary the government pays them?
i'm so very much looking forward the the day the dea is shut down and those worms have to find new jobs...

Well they got their jobs from the alcohol prohibitionists that failed and decided to focus on sweet mary jane, its a shame they didnt choose something else. Nothing has really changed with them, they just wanna use the people to get wealth at any expense with any lie.

Sounds right to me FEDS and common crooks have many things in common. They violate our rights and steal our property and ignore our protection.

The Dark Environment Around us that permiates and exudes their moral decay upon many citizens, will be and must be shut down by the American Tax Payers. It will become more prevalant as the voting public becomes aware of the power they truly have in making this happen. There's a few of them and millions of others, the ratio is in favor of the "Others" . The funding alone the DEA has comes from many Marijuana raids, what more could they ask for if raids on Marijuana ceased? Their funds will have run dry, they too loose their jobs... They go on unemployment, maybe they turn to " Illegal seizures of cannabis from growers, under the disguise of " MEN IN BLUE".
A fearful fact for many DEA, is that they will have no jobs soon. Better get it now while they can... shame shame shame DEA...Go away, you do not play nicely in the sandbox with the other children.
Soon to see from a Government near you: the Amero Dollar:eek:r the re-Patriotism of the
" UNITED STATES of CANEXICO" now that would be a force de major:
