ATLANTA, Georgia (AFP) — Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill was arrested here on Saturday on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession, according to a police report.

The National Football League player, who could become a free agent at the end of next month, was arrested in his car at 4 am after several people reported a car with a driver asleep at an intersection, police said.

"One of the deputies found Mr. Leroy Hill passed out behind the wheel," said Sergeant Dwayne Taylor of the Douglas County Sheriff's office. "He smelled marijuana coming from Mr. Hill's car."

Taylor told the Seattle Times that Hill consented to a search of his vehicle, and a deputy found two bags containing marijuana in a bookbag on the passenger's side.

Hill was charged with a misdemeanor because he possessed less than an ounce of marijuana. He received a traffic citation and was released on bond. No court date was immediately set.
