Tip-Off Leads To Marijuana Arrests

A MAN is in police custody after he was found in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Assistant Police Public Relations Officer Corporal Suliano Tevita said the 58-year-old man was in police custody after dried leaves believed to be marijuana was found in his possession.

He said acting on information received, a team of officers stopped the man's vehicle and did a search. He said the officers found 11 sachets of dried leaves inside the man's car.

Cpl Tevita said the incident happened on Sunday at Vuniyasi, Nadi. He said police had sent the leaves to the government analyst and were waiting for a report.

Meanwhile, last week a husband and wife and their driver were in police custody at Navosa police station for trying to throw out a bag of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. The couple and their driver were stopped by a team of officers carrying out an operation and searched the vehicle. In the process, one of the suspects threw away a bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana weighing about four kilos.

In a separate incident, police have interviewed and released a 24-year-old man after dried leaves believed to be marijuana was found in his possession. The dried leaves weighed about 30grams. Police found the man acting in a suspicious manner and searched him.
