I notice that some powder is put in the soil before they transplant, can anybody tell me what that is and what would be a good brand thanks.

That would be a root inoculant (Mycorrhizae). There are many different brands to chose from.

The soil inoculant I use comes in an engineered "kit" developed by a lab specifically for ProMix HP. I'm not familiar with the other brands. Sorry, wish I could help more.

Maybe check the 420 Sponsors for a supplier?

I use a brand carried by Fred Meyer called MYKOS. It's in a black plastic bag. and is made by OMRI. Each bag comes with a measuring spoon for large and for small transplants. One 16 oz bag will last you a long time!
