Get the photone app for yer phone? I will probably cost 6,99 though to unlock the spectrum you are using and you need to make a correct diffuser with the right paper composition but once you've got that you can measure and dial in the exact distance for every stage of growth especially handy is the daily light integral where you can see how much energy they are receiving depending on how many hours of light they receive.

Yep im in veg now.ive done three grows with them and every time i have to play with them .what im growing now seems to like 60% power at 29 inches away staying around 78 degrees

There is really no right or wrong answer with this. It all depends on how much room you have to play with and how sensitive your plants are. During flower you want to be a bit closer to the plants since they need as much light energy as possible. While in Veg you can be a bit further away. Its best to pay attention to your plants and see how they are responding. If they are getting burned or showing signs of light bleaching, the light needs to be moved further away. Alternatively if they are stretching too much or showing signs of lanky growth, you may benefit from lowering the lights to be closer to the plants. Some growers will leave the light in one spot and use the dimmer switch to adjust the intensity that way.
