Clawing leaves are a sign of the PPM being too high, or the water being too warm. Listen now and believe it later: "1100 is very high for hydro, and I would only go that high in the 6-8th week of flower, and only then if I was 100% sure the strain needed it. Check the temps of your bucket water before you do anything and make sure they are under 72."
I've never heard of anyone adding as much tea as you're adding. Typically, for DWC, the suggested dose is 8oz a couple times a week. Did someone suggest you use that much tea? Trust me, I think beneficial tea is the way to go in DWC, but I don't know if you will run into any consequences by adding too much.
>>>I'm adding directly to the res now because I'm using both the activated tea as well as concentrated shots of the GW and the VDJ I figure the carbo load will help to extend the lives of the bennies as well as give the plants a boost of sugar.
It is best to only feed the beneficials outside the reservoir. Sugary products can trigger a slime outbreak. There are good AND bad bacteria in the bucket. So we try to STARVE the bad bacteria in the res.
I won't bother you with any more advice on high PPM or carbs / sugar products. Proceed at your own risk ;-)
I will be cutting the PPM's down a bit after this res. So far I have not seen ANY sign of nute burn other than the leaf curl I'm starting to see now. No tip burn no nothing.
I've done my research on this particular strain and it is a heavy feeder. Think Different, look it up.
I add 2 cups of tea every day to the res. Sometimes I add a couple cups to the root crown as well so far I haven't noticed any detrimental side effects and believe me I look for them. My roots are VERY healthy on both plants. I also add a half gallon to each plant of stump tea once a week that I get free from the hydro store. I add this directly to the root crown so the rock wool filters out the organic stuff so it doesn't hit the res. I've also taken to adding a teaspoon of GW every couple days directly to the res as well, sort of a booster shot. If any pathogen can gain a foot hold with all the good stuff I've got boiling in the res then it's one badass bacteria.
I'm well aware of how sugary products can cause an outbreak, I've had one, it wasn't fun and it wasn't pretty, it was allowed to happen because I made a noob assumption about how beneficial bacteria works, that assumption has since been corrected. On a side note plants also require sugar at about the phase that I'm in which is why I'm back to adding it to the res.
Temps I assume are below 72 I don't have a thermometer at the moment. Since swapping to bloom and swapping the light the temps have dropped from low 80's to around 74-75 I also leave the door to the tent open and the surrounding temp is 67 so I'm going to assume that my res is lower in temp than what my light is pushing out.
I don't mind the advice I truly don't your growing method is the one that caught my eye and it's one I'd like to duplicate in the immediate future. I'm growing this strain because I want some weed quick instead of paying 100 bucks a quarter. And also since I'm extremely low on cash I can't afford the entire setup I'd need to duplicate your grows.
So far my plants tell me their ok with the high ppm for now. If they weren't trust me I'd be changing out the res everyday until I got it right. My plants get inspected multiple times a day. So far this leaf clawing which may or may not be a temporary thing and a slight cal deficiency, which I understand is normal for an auto, are the only things I'm seeing other than that my plants are growing like gangbusters.
I don't mean to call you out or sound like I'm being argumentative, that's not my intent. I've read every word you've written on this site. and I can't wait to implement your style. So please feel free to chime in with the advice as often as you please.
