KCMP Multi Strain Grow Journal 2014 - First Grow

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and the hobby of gowing, and figured that starting a journal to document my current grow would be a good first post.

This is a 100% legal Colorado grow.

Strains: Jack Flash x2, Top Shelf Chem x2, Hash Plant x1, Lemon Diesel x1, Sour OG x1, Cube x1
Current Stage: Flowering, 2 weeks
Soil: Ecoscraps potting mix in 3 gallon Smartpots
Grow Area: Indoor Tent, 24"48"x60"
Lighting: Apollo Horticulture GL100 300w LED (three for a total of 900w)
Ventilation: Passive Intake, 230CFM outake with Carbon Filter
Room Temp 65 - 80 F
Humidity 14 - 25%
Soil PH: 6.5ish
Watering Schedule: Every 2 days or as needed
Fert Schedule: Every other watering
Ferts used: Fox Farms Trio @ 1/2 strength.
Pests: I have seen 1 or 2 ocassional fungus gnats

Background Info: This grow was started in combination with my roommate who is a medical card holder. I have always been interested in growing, and the law is now finally on my side. We chose to go the LED route since we are both involved in the entertainment lighting industry and have a bias towards LED fixtures already. The grow is also taking place in a small closet, so ventilation was a concern. All plants were purchased as clones (at different times) so unfortunately they have gone into flowering at varrying heights / sizes. This is my first experience growing and I was told the best advice was to just dive right in.

Flowering started on 10/27/14

Any advice / tips / criticism is appreciated. Like I said this is my first attempt at a grow so it is all a learning experience. I have already made plenty of mistakes.

Here are a few shots of how everything started. I wish I had kept a better photo log, which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

First Top Shelf Chem clone purchased from a local dispensary.

The new clones and my very large (after 4 weeks of veg) Top Shelf Chem in the grow tent. The Sour OG, Hash Plant, and Lemon Diesel were added at a later date, and I do not seem to have photos.

All of the plants at the start of the last week of Veg before they were switched to 12/12

Flowering Day 18 Update

Had a chance to get into the tent today to get some close ups on the forming colas. Finally starting to see some nice trichome development.

Any idea what is going on with this guy?

None of my other plants (including the other Top Shelf Chem) are exhibiting growth like this. I am wondering if it is a heat issue?


Did a full dose of the Tiger Bloom with my last feeding and some of the buds have really swolen up!

I am also starting to feel like I have too many plants in this tent. Next round I may go with 4 larger plants if I use the same space again.

Nice set up. Not for sure on the Jack flash but it looks like it went crazy stretching was it in another plants shadow or farther away from the lights. They do most of there stretching in the first 2 weeks of flower so hopefully that is over now. Otherwise looks good excited to see more.

It was not, however I did add a 3rd light when the plants were switched to flower and raised them from 20" to the top of the tent for better ventilation. I am now wondering if that was the cause.

My post was also rather vague and confusing... It is actually one of the Top Shelf Chem (Chem 91 x Sour Diesel) plants that is having that strange growth.

My first Top Shelf Chem plant has developed some brown / yellow spotting on the upper fan leaves. I am thinking it is a calcium issue? Thoughts?

What is wrong with this plant?

I confirmed the runoff PH is at 6.0 - 6.5

Update Day 32 of Flowering

Got a few updates to post today. About to head into week 5 of flowering and have started my flush on the hash plant.

Decided to do a little defoliation experiement with my eldest Top Shelf Chem. We will see how it turns out, I was very hesitant to remove any leaves this late into flowering, but I just let her get to bushy during veg. Removed about 10% of the fan leaves and have MUCH better light penetration. Hopefully she doesn't die.

I am already starting to plan for the next round and think I am going to try a new strain called 398 Kush.

Pre 98 Bubba Kush x Bruce Banner #3. Deep purple, lots of orange hairs, and a musky lavendar smell that will knock your socks off.

I was keeping them about 12 - 18" over the plants during veg. When I switched to flower I raised them to the top of the tent (I am cheap and using zip ties as hangers) and added a 3rd light. Probably started about 24" above and have crept back to around 18".

I had a power supply go out in one of the lights and am trying to find the correct replacement. Should only be a $10 part. If anyone has a source for a 100v out LED driver let me know!

Quick Update week 7

Colas are really starting to swell this week! Very pleased with the progress so far. My compact Jack Flash pheno is looking great and is at least a week ahead of the other ladies.

Okay everyone here is the week 7 update.

Plants are all looking great, especially my smaller Jack Flash and the Hash Plant. I am anticipating harvest within the next ten days but would love some input regarding their readiness.

Any opinions on how much longer I should let the Jack Flash go? Trichomes are about 50% milky, no amber.

looking beautiful. I would let it go, until at least 10% are amber. I took my first bud too soon, and now regret that I did. Outside of time, these buds look amazing.

Thanks for the tip. The hash plant is going to be exclusively for my roommates medical use (which stinks because it smells so good!) so I want to let as much THC convert to CBN as possible.

The Jack Flash on the other hand.... that is 14er hiking weed.

I have a bad back, so I have CBN needs at night, I also am a work at home creative type, so enjoy my THC moments. I will pick productive pain in the mornings, and then dull pain relief at night for my other uses.

Found a Maui Blue that is so motivating, I am going to return to the dispensary, and pick up a clone of it to add to my grow cycle. I love its *fun* buzz.

Interestingly enough back pain is his issue as well. Just finished his 2nd L5 S1 spinal fusion (after the first failed). Definitely would appreciate any high CBN strains that seem to work for you, his biggest issue is getting to sleep at night. So far Pre-98 Bubba Kush and Kosher Kush are his favorites.
