JimmieJ's First Grow - Mini Bubble Cloner DIY

I decided to try a DIY cloner. I picked up a fish tank pump, I had the rest of the stuff. No idea if it's going to work or not, but I have nothing to lose!

The dang tubing would not allow the bubble stone to sit at the bottom, so I decided to anchor it with a clay pot. I drilled a small hole in the side of the peanut bucket for the tubing.

Bubbles!

Some pipe insulation. My theory was to make holes small enough to squeeze the insulation shut.

I made the holes too big the first time. Good thing peanuts are a favorite munchie of mine, I had an extra lid to try again. Success!

I don't have any plants that have anything suitable for a cutting at the moment, so I took a fan leaf. The stem slid right in. If it roots, I can pop the foam out and unroll it, hopefully not damaging any roots. I don't expect anything on this one. It's a crappy looking fan leaf from a flowering plant. I don't even know if fan leaves root like a good cutting does.

Now I've never seen a bubble cloner in action, so I don't know if the bubbles are the right size. I feel little splashes of water when I put my face right up to the opening. Anyone know if that's about right?

Great tip, Canna! I can't imagine trying to do this all on my own. I'd never get all the details right. Thanks for that piece of advice, it's stuff like this that is going to help me be able to grow all my own meds.

I have foil duct tape - the only duct it's ever been used on is my charcoal filter/fan. :laughtwo:

I cut up a black trash bag, and as I was thinking about which tape to attach it with, I remembered the foil. :cheer:

This should do it!
