Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

So I’m quite good at doing what I say ai’m going to do:

IMG_0481.jpeg

That’s from a lovely guy from Grove Bags. I’ve put him in touch with Rob. Grows (only 10ft or the neighbors see! 😂)

Hopefully something comes of it.

Any of you US based people - what do I need to show to buy a truck? Presumably ID of some sort? I’d be paying cash. Got various nationalities of passports and driving licenses I can show. (Real ones!)

Real Nick so annoyed with me. He knows I’m Jedi mind tricking him into coming 😂

Also - I don’t mind drummers. Weird is built in.

Bass players? They’re the ones you need to watch out for.

Espedair Street by Iain Banks is a brilliant book about a bass player.

Nick
Valid drivers license and insurance should cover all the bases. But don’t quote me on it. That’s for a U.S.citizen. CL🍀

Drummers always were a bit of mystery to me. They have the coordination of gymnasts along with their athleticism but with their own musical expertise. I would imagine it’s not ez being a drummer 🥁. CL🍀

Yeah I need to look into it. Rolling up to Philly in a truck like this

Get some massive weed leaf painted on the side and roll up to the ball game in it, toss the keys to someone and never see it again. Or just get a Navigator at the airport. Probably easier and for sure an easier drive!

Yeah bro! They need to be so fit! And weird.

We all generally count in Base 10. 1, 2, 3.... 10

But there are other bases. 12 next most common.

Richard Feynman one of the greatest theoretical physicists learnt to count I think in base 15 or something. How?

He went to Mexico on a sabbatical, played some poker and drank a load of rum. Met an African bongo player. Bongo's turns out are played in basically base 15 or 17 across your two hands.

So he says - He did go to Mexico, play some poker and play bongos. It might just have been one of his stories to simplfy complex things. But yeah bongo players play in some weird 'bases' as pertains to numbers. He sort of converts 4/4 or whatever into number theory.

Smart cookie.

I looked into getting a delivery van 🚐 once in my younger days. I had owned a regular van and used it for going to bikeweek, camping, concerts and stored my H-D in it when I was OTR driving a truck. It was customized for working on my bike but also had a bed. Anyway I thought a delivery truck would have more space. But I discovered that they didn’t come cheap for my purposes. CL🍀

The van 🚐 I had, I made the mistake of putting 2 big decals on the rear door windows of the H-D bar n shield. I was wondering why I kept getting pulled over by the cops 👮 until it finally dawned upon me that the decals were cop 👮 magnets.🧲 You paint 🎨 a big pot leaf 🍁 on your truck and your gonna get a about a mile in between being pulled over. Lmfao 🤣 CL🍀.

I'm banking on my poshest "But I'm a Britisher!" accent getting me out of cop trouble! (not that I plan on getting in any trouble!)

Me and the FBI in San Diego when I was about 17 - ha funny as. I spotted their "undercover" operation just before they kicked in the doors of some guy in 1997 I think 😆

- What makes you think I'm FBI?

Well the cap with FBI on and that kevlar jacket, Suuur? I'm just here on holiday from England though! Could I get that cap off you ? What's the guy done?

He laughed and said,

- I can't tell you but he's bad man and no kid I need this hat right now! You make sure you grow up right!

It was like beach front San Diego near that rickety old rollercoaster. Best Western I think we were staying in.

Yeah good luck with that one Nick, back in the day the Philly cops 👮 had a reputation for being very violent. I don’t remember but I think they got in trouble for it. It’s funny cause Chicago cops always had a reputation for being corrupt n violent but they never got in trouble for it. Better Union maybe 🤔? CL🍀

Thank you bro.

Thank you mate but really its my wife - you and I both know its our wives make stuff happen! x

I'm gonna kinda paraphrase what I sent to @InTheShed with our weights.

I 100% do not want to come across as a "Whiney Limey"

My fancy light broke. It happens, stuff breaks, in grows stuff happens. "Plan A" becomes "Recovery Plan K"

Genuinely - I really learnt so much from this grow by once I'd written it off as yield grow - just testing other things.

That is in no way to take away from @Jon and his efforts! What I was really interested in from Jon's grow was more, not the Auto aspect, more the training aspect. It's a real weak spot in our skill set.

Because the light broke and we couldn't utilise the Co2 and high temps I haven't got any info on that delta point of reference I hoped for.

But - we did pivot to something different and we learned stuff we weren't expecting to learn! Ain't that fun!

This grow was Jon's idea - PM'd me out the blue - I think it took me an hour so to agree. He'll tell you my first worry it would come across as too competitive, the fear that the bants, the roasting between us might get misconstrued by 95% hours of members on the site. Like me and Jon and PM'd a bit before this but not much at all. I thought I'd been growing for years, rather than months, we weren't as tight mates as you might think!

But I was like hell yeah! (once we clarified no actual real competition) Jon didn't even want to release numbers at one point.

We really need to be competitive?

Hehe - me and Jon both! We are competitive monsters!

The roasting and bants got a bit much and we toned it down cause some cool members suggested it in private.

Glad we did!

It was always gonna be me doing the 16 hour flight to the US the 3 hours from NY to Philly or 2 hours to Boston? Its a rounding error. BTW - def doing it round the world! I'll fly east to NY (over the north pole) then go back east home to Thailand.

Back East...

Back wherever.

I want a holiday, a treat, pull one of my airport hoodies on, adjust the can's on my ears, take the champagne and press the button that makes my seat go flat.

Then rent a massive American sized SUV (Navigator) and jump the queue at Citizen's Bank Park and watch my first live baseball game - with a buddy yeah, a guy

He's made me laugh plenty.

Good dude is Jon

If we can get Bill there or anyone else round those parts there? Then yeah - my cup, its overflowing.

Nick
I love this summary. Well said.

Gorilla Cookies coco/hydro/Cyco
Complete Harvest
Day 110

And then she was down and washed and hung. This plant is as close to perfect as I’m capable of growing. The buds are rocks. Diamonds even they’re so hard. Nothing burned. 10-15% amber. Lots of weight. Perfect dense ass strands of sativa pearls. Gorgeous amazing plant I will grow again for sure. Bravo 420FastBuds, you guys nailed the genetics in this one. Perfectly timed harvest in my world too. Wow. Can’t wait to smoke this. It is so frosty I didn’t even want to cut off the fans to hang it. She is approximately in the 8-10 ounce range by my eye and holding the stems. 110 days. Wow.

A word on Cyco. If you grow with nutes and can spend the coin, try it. Cyco Platinum Series, full range including all extras. Best nute system I’ve used by miles and miles. It destroys Remo, Prescription Blend, Fox Farms (duh), or anything else I’ve used. Growth is spectacular. Burning is non existent. Quality is immense. Amazing nute system. Shame it has to be so damn expensive.

Now I’m off the finish harvesting the sister Gorilla Cookies. What a PITA day.

Here’s the haul.

Idk Jon PB has grown a lot of stellar weed. But I don’t think you’re one for exaggerating when making recommendations. With that being said what makes cyco so special? Inquiring minds want to know! lol 😂 CL🍀.

Its a cross post.

Btw - I'm interested in the mad expensive cyco review same as Lucky!

But if you can stand my lazy English voice in this video - its where we're at in our main grow. The tents are just sorta for fun or various other things. This is our real thing.

Totally fair question @CaptainLucky! First let me say that I also was a Prescription Blend aficionado. I loved it. It was flawless and foolproof. I would say the same about the Cyco. But specifically, to answer your question, what I look at is health of the plant, rate of growth, size attained, and development/finish of buds. I also take into account things like degree of fall over, does it work in soil, coco and/or water, and how are the lower buds forming. All these factors go into my assessment. And Cyco nailed that on every level beyond the capabilities of PB or Remo.

The important question is why.

I don’t know for sure, not educated enough yet. But I can say this: Cyco has some specific ingredients that other nute systems don’t have. They also have a silica I initially shat on, but understand better now. These are:
- Potash Plus
- Silica
- Grow XL
- Dr. Repair
- B1 Boost

All of these perform a specific function and are dedicated bottles. I also shat on the Dr Repair at first, but then I realized that it is their CalMag. It needs used every feed as suggested. The Silica is light. But the feed rate and the fact that it’s used all the way through covered that base very well, I had minimal fallover. Less than usual. I don’t know the benefit of the Potash Plus or B1 Boost, but believe they must help due to results. And the Grow XL, although I can’t explain it, definitely had an impact. It was the small stretch we saw at the time of application but the effect seemed to continue for a while.

However it technically fits together, both the plants that used it are spectacular. Both were huge. Excellent rate of growth. Excellent bud development. It outperformed the others on every level. And - unlike PB - I never had to add a thing. And unlike Remo, I never had to cut back on a thing. Lastly, the PK boost ingredient that comes in in flower is spectacular. The growth on the buds was extremely apparent as soon as it came into play.

I loved them. I’ll use them again.

Is that better CL?

Sounds awesome and as much as I love PB I have to admit that it lacking a Silica additive leads to floppy colas. But you definitely peaked my interest in cyco. If it’s not too crazy expensive I prolly will have to try it out. CL🍀 :thanks:

For nutes we use Dutch Pro, and even using Co2 we kick it down to the low end of their recommended ranges in term's of milliteres per litre and EC

A note on that - PPM is not convertible with anything other than estimation to EC

There are different bases but you should be looking so single decimals

Like 0.4 to 3.0 - if you don't have a tester reads like that then get one that does. Most important number after Ph for us.

But yeah - the more we stick to cal mag, A/B and Mono silic - the better.

I see a need for some amino type stuff, Dutch Pro call it "Total" but less than we used before - the grow in the video we haven't used it yet. The distributor is out of it.

Plants look like a passing grade so far!

A lot of it, apart from maybe mono silic? There is no magic juice.

One companies nitrogen is the same same as the other people's.

You like a prettier box or you need more instruction? Sure use their N - and use a formulation designed for you grow medium.

Dutch Pro have A/B for veg and A/B for Bloom. They then sub divide that into "Soil" then "Hydro Coco" further subdivided into "Soft/RO" water and "Hard"

Now? We could grow with any nutes. We grow with that because its one of only two brands we can get that we can buy in 20L/5 Gallon jerry cans. We buy bulk.

The rest the nutes - by which I mean the packaging or feed charts?

Just window dressing.

Can't beat Ph, NPK (plus the rest, the micros) and EC.

However pretty the box is.

Hey Nick i have a question for you if you don't mind you're the only one i know who used a 480watt light you used that in a 5x5 right? how many plants was it good for? i have one in my 5x4 & was 1/2 decent for 4 plants in 7 gal pots but edges & corners the PPFD dropped pretty fast next fall i want six 7 gal pots going in the 5x4 but unsure if 480 watt will do the trick i'm thinking of upgrading to atleast a 700 watter any insite?

Hi con - I know you asked Nick. I just wanna say GO FOR THAT 700! 480 is way too low for a 5x5 imho. We would all have the same drop offs you describe with 480 over 25 sq ft.

Thanks Jon it don't matter who answers just looking for a bit of guidance, Thanks was looking at a sponsers light cultiuana the ct 720 or ct 700 pro & sent them a message a month ago & no reply i don't want to pay $200+ for shipping so probably see what i can find that has a ware house in canuk land any recomindations? id like to try a sponsors light like mars or viper as long as they have the 301 diodes but open to other suggestions if reasonably priced

Ok I can’t go any further today. When I told you guys these were big plants I was serious. Lol. I’ve literally done nothing today except water the plants, then harvest, trim, wash, and hang for the rest of the day til now. That started at 5 am. This is why Jon needs an And Co. But they don’t grow on trees and not all of them are as superior as the one Nick got.

Here’s the Gorilla Cookies, or a lot of it. There’s also that branch I took before in the bathroom and the rest of plant as pictured to do yet. Oy. The rest come down tomorrow. They’re easier plants by far than these two.
