James Bong Returns With DWC

Hey 420Mag,

I have returned to my 4x4 tent after a little hiatus to get some business squared away.

I am growing 2 x Fem Big Buds from Nirvana,
1 in coco-Perl (70-30) other in 5 gallon DWC bucket.

Coco plant will be my mother plant a while, DWC will be flipped to flower after 4-5 week veg and some training.

A little background info. This is my very first attempt at DWC or Hydro. I grew my first crop starting June 2019 and have harvested 2 more since. My first crop was a terrible case of loving my plants "too much" but with the help of i was able to get them through to the end. My last 2 harvest was 5 x Blue Mystic Autos (a real treat) 10.5oz
3 x Big Bud Fem and 3 x Skywalker OG Fem for just shy of a LB at 15 oz. I took a break after that to get some work done over summer during my busy season.

I finally found my way back to the basement to get some dirt under my nails.
Hoping to bring you guys some quality content and pick something new up along the way.

I replaced my nutrient mix. I’m still feeding on the lighter side right around (320ppm+water=530-540ppm). My tap water is 210 +/- 10
When the leaves begin to lightly yellow I bump up 25-50%

pH at 5.8

the coco plant got transplanted into its 5 gallon pot where she’ll will spend the rest of her days replenishing my cloning trays. She has showed no signs of transplant shock or stress(flushed with some potassium silicate)

I’m monitoring ph/ppm at least 3 times a day pH doesn’t swing much thanks to the pH perfect.

So far so good, red change has her pepped right up. I added 4mls of 3% h2o2 to the res since my original bucket just wouldn’t keep the lid on and had some light leaking in. So mainly precautionary, will be getting a jug of sterilizing agent or hydro guard.

The new bucket has been a better fit so far, the water looked clearer aswell. pH and PPM were stabile at 5.8 and 540.

Additional information:

4x4x7 grow tent
Veg lights are 2x Marshydro ts1000

Undecided if I will flower with these lights also or if I will hook up my hps as I’m working around some electrical handicaps.

I am rather impressed with my $9.00 Govee temp/rh meter as well since I can monitor from an app as well as flow chart to show me when my swings happen

here’s a root shot to keep my potential readers convinced I’m doing all of this for them and not to talk to myself

mother plant was topped so I can get plenty of branches early, I won’t update on this plant as much but I’ll keep everyone in the loop.

I know, @Emilya has me really excited about the Durban Poision and Blue Mystic is the only one I have experience with. I grew 5 autos and vowed to keep a mother plant on hand from then forward.

sweet, blueberry aroma. Doesn’t stink the whole house up as she grows. And when she comes out of the grinder everyone in the room is trying to get a peak at what you’ve got.

$30-40 for a SINGLE a seed ?! OH MY GOD . there are no ‘ free seeds’ based on these prices. What the actual fuck ? Thats more money than living clones for sale Up here!

rememeber the good old days ( umm. like JANUARY ) when you could get a 5 pack of elite feminized photo seeds for $55 bucks a pack??

Those are all 5 packs, with another free 5 pack totaling 10 per strain. If that was per seed I’d find another hobby lmao

Root rot has definitely become an issue as projected. Drove to the grow store today just to realize it’s Sunday and they were closed

I’ll be going back first thing in the morning for some black air tubing and some hydro guard. Res. Will be getting a good cleaning and change also, but until then I’m still adding 3% h202 at 1ml/l to keep it some what contained.
I heard how quick everything can go down hill in DWC but damn that was quick.
might be flowering the coco plant after all

Apparently they can’t sell hydro guard in my state, but I picked up some Z7 instead at that price there has to be some quality enzymes in capable of knocking out Pythium
I’ll let you know.

I soaked my roots in a stronger solution of H2O2 while I cleaned and changed me reservoir. I cleaned the res with a 5-1 mix of 99% isopropyl alcohol and rinsed. Then I made up a fresh res as follows.

3-3.5 gallons of tap water.
Z7 - 1/2 ml/G A&B (100%)
Grow Micro Bloom - 2ml/G each (50%)
Voodoo Juice - 2ml/G (50%)

pH adjusted to 5.8
Temps were at 68f

Took 1 gallon and poured down through my hydroton to clean them as well.

Here’s a before so we can see how well this stuff works.
