Legal 400W HPS Soil Grow 4 Plants

The girls are doing well. I was a little rough on the northern lights when I transplanted... it really slowed things down, but it seems to be making a full recovery.

The growth seems quite compact and the girls don't seem starved for light at all. I'll likely keep them under the t5's for another week prior to moving things over to the fully assembled and equipped grow tent. Happy holidays!

I have a busy week ahead of me, so I've opted to move the gals over to the tent and get this veg started. I have the light (400w MH) about 20 inches from the plants for now and the lights on for 18-6. I'll be transplanting the girls into 1 gallon grow bags with ffof as soon as the cups are dry enough. I have the canfan set to low, so I'll be keeping an eye on temps this afternoon and adjusting accordingly. Lets hope the gals enjoy their new home :)

Hello Aero, seen you stop by my journal. Nice to see another saskatchewan person on here.
I’m in for the grow show.:passitleft: Reading through and seeing your first plants sprout really reminded me of how I felt when my first girls showed life just a couple months ago lol. I’ve loved the journey so far and the new hobby is a blast. Staying on this forum and spending countless evenings reading here I feel has saved me a ton of heartache and costly mistakes.

Cheers

Thanks for joining Stu and Jinx. Happy to have you here.

I have a bit of a conundrum. I originally intended to grow 4 plants, and wound up with only 3 of the 4 sprouting. All 3 of my girls are Indica heavy. Should I just stick it out with the 3? Or maybe pop a Sativa heavy Sour Diesel seed and move it in in a couple of weeks? The 3 in there need approx 9 weeks to flower, where the diesel needs 11. I'd just start them all in flower at the same time. What do you think? I hear the Sativa's are a little trickier to grow and like to go tall and lanky.

Glad to be here :smokin:

If you popped another it wouldn’t be very far behind imo.

I don't think it should be too much of an issue. If they are auto plants they will flower when they flower, if they are photo then you can switch them both to flower at the same time. One of my 2 plants is a week older then the other, by the images I doubt you could tell which is which come flowering.

Stu and Jinx

I popped a sour diesel seed directly in to a dixie cup with some light potting mix today and threw it on the heatmat under the dome. I'm hoping it grows a little more quickly without having to be transplanted at all until it hits the tent. Thanks for the advice

Hi Nivek. I actually bought it all piece by piece on the internet. I've had the tent, ballast, and reflector for a good 8 years, just never had the courage to use them while growing was illegal. The rest I've picked up on various grow sites and Amazon. Just ordered another inline duct fan to attach to my intake filter, my temps are too high with everything closed and it drawing intake passively. This hobby is expensive.... haha

Hello all,

My white widow girl is looking a bit rough! Wondering if anyone might help shed some light on what's happening.

The story: The WW seedling was the last to sprout and looked a bit sickly at first. The cotyledon never had a nice green color, they were more like yellow/brown and blotchy. The new growth all looked good. I gave it a couple of weeks in a dixie cup and it seemed to be doing ok. I transplanted to a 1 gallon container a couple of days ago. I also transplanted the other plants and they have had no troubles whatsoever. The ww's lower leaves are yellowing/browning. It appears to be starting at the tip of another leaf too. There is tons of new growth taking place as well. I noticed the yellowing while watering this morning prior to heading to work.

Humidity is low. I can't seem to get it above 17% while running a small humidifier in the tent, it's 10% otherwise. Temps run from 21c with the lights off to 28c with them on. Soil PH is 7.0 and I'm watering with 6.5. I've just ordered a bigger humidifier from Amazon that should take care of the whole room. I've also invested in moisture meters and am using smart pots to help prevent my noob self from overwatering. Not sure if that could be it? I should also note that they are now in fox farm ocean forest soil, where they were started in a gentle potting mix. Maybe transplant shock? Pests? I'm at a loss.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Wound up doing a blackstrap molasses and bat guano 0-13-1 foliar spray last night at lights out. The plants seem no worse for wear this morning. I'm thinking the white widow has a phos deficiency, resulting in it's sickly appearance. I went a 1/4 strength with both the molasses and guano in hopes of giving the plants a small boost until the roots can support the rapid growth taking place. My research leads me to believe that the molasses will make the organic nutes in the fox farm ocean forest more bioavailable too, which sounds good to me. I'll also be watering at a lower PH going forward. I was watering at 6.5, and will be watering at 6.2 now.

I removed the yellowest/brownest lower leaves on the white widow yesterday as well. There is a small amount of yellowing present still, hoping the plant makes a recovery following the spray and the yellowing/browning stops spreading. The northern lights is doing pretty well, and the skywalker og is thriving. Still waiting for the sour diesel I popped 6 days ago to make an appearance. The soil appears to be lifting, so thinking it shouldn't be long.

Cheers,

Hey Aero nice set up you have there. I'm no expert but i will say when they are that small be very careful about watering. if they need water they will let you know. Once you do they will perk up very quickly but if you over water it can take a while for the plant to tell you sometimes and a fair bit of damage can be done. I've never used fox farm so cant help you there but i have use some basic potting soil before and had a similar problem as your WW. I don't think it was properly PH'd and had a lockout on two of the three seedling i had in it. Once i got them out and into my mix they were ok after a few days. Personally i would hold off on the foliar till you see if there is any damage on the newer growth. There should be plenty of nutes for this stage of growth in the soil. wait till the soil is dry down about an inch or more then water to runoff and check the ph of the run off. I hate to tell you this but that meter is basically garbage i know i had one too. if you don't have a decent PH pen Pick up some ph papers for now they will get you close. Earlys has them for $16 mine have lasted two years now but i switched to organic after my first grow so only use them if there is a problem. Just my 2 cents.
Best of luck

P.S. I quit worrying about the RH some time ago i found the added cost of the power for the humidifier let alone the the dehumidifier for the room I'm exhausting into was not worth it and quit frankly seemed ridiculous. You and i both know if you have your RH high when its -30 there will be problems. We had a taste of that I'm sure there is more coming:p

Hey Jim! Glad to see another local! I appreciate you dropping in and sharing a little advice. Thanks for the compliment on the set up. It's slowly evolving. Haha

As a complete rookie to growing anything, I'm trying to get a handle on this whole watering thing. Using fabric pots and a flood tray is helping, but I wouldn't doubt that I could be overwatering. I filled a 1 gallon pot with dry soil today and will use it to compare weights from now on. I agree that the meter is kinda shitty. The readings don't seem accurate at all.

Speaking of Early's - I started the seedlings in some Early's potting mix amended with about 20% perlite and 20% coco coir. Worked great, I think the white widow might just be a problem child.

I was hoping on getting the humidity up to about 30% and holding it there. Do you think it would cause problems if I put that clear window film over the windows in here?

Watering can be tricky. Once you know what to look for on the plant its simple. If you are checking them daily and since this is your first grow I'm sure you are checking them multiple times:) you will figure it out. The dry pot will help but you dont want your plants pots to dry completely either.

BINGO thats the same shit that gave me problems. When i checked the ph the papers didn't even register so it was under 5.5 I think it was not mixed properly or something because it was only two of the three cups i had problems with. You don't have them in that anymore then? I carefully washed my roots off and put it in some new soil and after few days every thing was fine. If you brought over the seedling mix when you up potted it may take a little longer but i think you will be okay??

At 30% you should be good down to about -20 or so. The window will be okay beyond that if you wrap it but there is no easy way to tell if your vapour barrier was done properly . No idea on when your house was built or by whom and I've seen some pretty shoddy workmanship in some houses built in the last boom so there is a very good chance you could end up with moisture in your walls which could be far worse. If its a newer home and you have an air exchanger and know how to work it you should be fine it will run more often but thats up to you.
