Sour Diesel, Second Grow, First Time In Coco!

Hi All,

I had a relatively successful first grow in Soil,.and wound up with a little over 3/4's of a pound. I ended up with a few seeds as one of my plants hermied on me. I did a scrog and wasn't able to figure out which plant was the culprit. I'm not going to be scrogging this time and will opt with LST.

This go round, I'm going organic in Coco. I've watched Mr. Canuk's Youtube channel and was impressed with his results! He uses Gaia Green nutes and it all looks so simple. I stocked up on Gaia Green 4-4-4 and Power Bloom and am giving it a whirl.

I'm going with Sour Diesel (feminized) for all 4 plants and hope to pull off a successful grow. I germed in paper towels and all 4 seeds popped, I then transplanted over to coco with my amendments premixed. The girls broke soil a couple of days ago and appear to be healthy.

I've moved my tents in to the basement as high temps were becoming a bit of an issue towards the end of my first grow, especially when I amped things up to 1000 watts. The girls are currently in a small 2x2 tent with 4 LED conversion bulbs in a t4 fixure. I'm PH'ing at 6.0, as Mr. Canuk recommends with organic dry amendments. I water until 20% runoff every couple of days. I'll be mixing up fresh nutes every time I up-pot, and then top dressing at the start of flower, and at the 5 week mark. Have a little Cal-Mag and liquid seaweed and molasses for flower as well.

I'm excited and hope to pull off a grow Mr. Canuk would be proud of. Cheers!

On a side note, here is my attempt at an outdoor plant in Saskatchewan. It's a Skywalker OG clone that spent 2 months in my 2x2 tent before being dropped off at my dad's house to grow outside. He grows tomatoes that end up 10ft tall by fall. Let's hope it produces! The 1st pic is after a trim

The girls are a week old and doing well. One is looking a little small and runty, the other 3 are growing nicely. I've up-potted to one gallon grow bags. I'd say the girls should be ready for the 5x5 in a couple of weeks.

Cheers!

Well... the runt is tiny in comparison to the other 3. Doesn't look that healthy either. I'm going to give it another 2 weeks before moving it outside or just straight up killing it.

What do you guys do with the runts? How much time do you give em?

Cheers!

I’m with Jimbob, aero. If she doesn’t thrive don’t waste expensive nutes on her, but if you have the space you have nothing to lose by letting her go to term. As with oysters, sometimes the smallest are the sweetest.

Day 13 and the girls are doing well. I added a little calmag to todays watering, just to stave off any potential deficiencies. Will also be doing a liquid seaweed foliar feed soon. The runt has doubled in size, but still remains pretty tiny in comparison to the others.

I've been watering every 3-5 days, as the coco has never really dried out. This is good, because I'll be out of town for 5 days soon and the girls should tolerate it pretty well. Cheers!

Day 16. A couple of the girls are showing signs of Mag deficiency - little rust colored spots on the lower leaves. I've upped the calmag to 1 tbps per gallon. The are still growing nicely, and the runt has doubled in size again in the last 3 days. It still has a lot of catching up to do.

I'm contemplating topping all of them, as I hear Sour Diesel is really stretchy during flower. I only have about 5 and a half feet of vertical grow space when I take my reflector and carbon filter in to consideration. Has anyone ever topped Sour D? Did it tolerate it pretty well?

I'm also contemplating doing a scrog after all. I hated that I wasn't able to visualize the entire plant last go, and I like the idea of being able to rotate and turn my plants. That being said, I only grew 3 plants last time and I'm doing 4 this go. I use fabric pots, and LST would be a little more difficult to pull off. Any tips for LST in fabric pots?

Hope all is well with your grows - Cheers!

Dropped by my dads today to take a look at my outdoor experiment. The Skywalker clone is about 4 feet tall and thriving. I just hope we have a mild fall and she pulls through flowering. Cheers!

Hello, I'll be watching this too, my first post here. I'm a couple of weeks away from trying this myself but with Dr earth dry amendments which are very similar to gia green.

After reading so many threads online assuming this grow method is a bad idea I'm nervous now, so I'm curious to watch how yours goes as I begin mine.

This will be my second grow after using organic soil so I'm still very new to growing. After seeing your post on the leaves looking deficient it got me thinking.

Again I've a complete noob so I'm hoping that experienced growers can chime in and give their thoughts on this.

With coco with dry organic amendments mixed In I'm assuming that even though the amendments are mixed in, the plants only feed off of it when it's watered, such as if it were a top dressing. With coco technically being a hydroponic medium and from what little I know about hydroponics, they need fed several times a day. With coco in smart pots you should be able to water it every day without fear of over watering. Wouldn't going 3 to 5 days in between watering starve the plants? Could that be the reason to the deficiency? It's always said, never treat coco like soil.

I wish you luck on a successful grow.

Hey man. Glad to have you here. I've read that you can water every day, but I've also read that you're good to go so long as you don't let the coco dry out. The top layer is always still damp when I water, so I'm thinking it should be ok.

Coco is known to leach calcium... and wherever calcium goes, mag will follow. so I'm going to be adding calmag every watering. Maybe grab yourself some before getting started too?

I appreciate the thoughtful response. Cheers!
