Question about Medical vaping

Smoking weed for a very long time my wife started on medical marijuana vaping recently. This is new to the both of us as we are from the 60&70s where you rolled a joint or smoked a bong. I have so many questions like what is the shelf life on the vape cartridge? Hers seems to be getting thicker and harsher overtime.
