Tokensmoke10's DIY PC Grow

You're doing great Token! You've got the passion and precision for sure. Not like me, I haven't even checked my PH yet. I like how you're rotating the containers. If I can get my speakerbox going, I will have to adopt that idea.

How do you like the fans in your PC case? How quiet are they? I've been on the lookout for something fairly small, efficient, and most importantly quiet.

Getting a new camera for christmas? Awesome. Just in time for some great subjects to shoot huh?

:thanks: GB

The fans are doing great, its funny though cause my smallest fan (the 120mm) is the loudest. The other 3 fans aren't standard sizes (they came with the case) but they are very quiet. But overall the loudest thing in my closet is when the humidifier is running!

And yes, hopefully I'll have some bud porn for ya guys by christmas! :grinjoint:

Yah they look fine to me, dont worry. One of my seedlings stem twisted into a circle before it figured out which way was up it straightened up eventually though.

While I'm sitting around before heading off to work I though I'd give ya guys a couple pics of the WHOLE setup.

Then I also had a great idea:

Since rainwater is almost the best thing you can use to water your plants (nearly perfect PH) then fresh snow should work just as well right? The past several days we've gotten over a foot of snow so there was plenty still fresh and untouched. Now I got some in a 5 gallon bucket melting :grinjoint:

Will snow melt down and still be the same PH?

I dont see why not its the same stuff just cold....
Thats an awesome idea if I could only fine a spot that hasnt been peed on Id do the same lol

nice pc set up bro. As far as the p.h goes keep in mind rain can be acidic depending on location. Not to say all will be that way. Locations around factories and industiral areas tend to run a lil mor eon the acidic side. My suggestion is to let the ice melt the test the P.H. Better safe then sorry. just something to marinade on. Nice work putting you p.c togerther. Great example of D.I.Y.

:thanks: TB!

And before even reading your advice I tested some of the melt off already and it reads off at 7.0 exact, which is what I expected. But great minds think alike no? :grinjoint:

Hope ya stick around for this grow, I've read your journals and I'm looking forward to any advice ya give :rollit:

I wonder what the rain water in Brooklyn is like?

Yeah, token, for me the smaller fans are the noisier ones too. I tried to take MeanBean's advice and I went to Wal-Mart to look for a Massey fan that he recommended, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I didn't really see anything similar at Home Depot either. Any ideas?

You can heat shrink the screws with something that will cut down on the shaking (which causes much of the fan's noise). I'm not 100% sure what to use but I'm sure you can google it and find out what would work best.

What would happen though is you would shrink it onto the screw then screw on your fan so it cuts down the vibrations.

Also, found this link for ya
How to dampen noise from PC fans

Hope that helps!

Token just caught up on this half of your grow, been out collecting info and ideas for my grow, did you solve your light problem with the fans I may have missed it? As for the noise of your fan instead of heat shrinking the screws try using rtv silicone it works great. Plus if you had to replace the fan it won't bind up the threads. Here's a grow link I ran across the other day. It has a really good basic grow guide. BTW what are the lumens on your light?

Thank you for the link, and for some reason the box didn't say the lumens but after going on the website my daylight bulb is rated for 10,500 lumens. :grinjoint:

Day 9:

Both girls are looking great everyone! :slide: I'm getting very excited for this grow!

Plant 1 is working on it's 4th set of leaves and is growing wider by the day :slide:

Plant 2 is working on it's 3rd set of leaves (lagging a little behind #1 but still healthy) and like #1 the original leaves are continuing to get bigger

I've also got a question though; I was reading around and came across a thread about fox farm nutes (the ones I'm using). Right now all I have for flowering is FF Big Bloom. Is just that one enough or do I need to add FF Tiger bloom with it? Most grows I've read use both but I just don't know if they are supposed to be used together or not.

Thanks everyone!

Token, I may wrong (known to happen 50% of the time) but I think one is for use in vegging stage while the other is for flowering stage.

Hey Token, thanks for the link about the fan noise, I've already read it though, and I did use the heat shrink tubing idea for the screws in my PC case. I was surprised how much it helped, actually. I'm liking the silicone idea too, but still some of these fans are too noisy no matter what.

When I bought the fox farm big bloom nutes, the lady gave me a feeding guide to go with it. I didn't buy anything else though. I've just been using big bloom for now, thinking that I wanted to focus on flowering and not veg. Here's the feeding guide, though, which looks like you can use pretty much everything they sell! Now how about that :smokin: I'm not saying it's bad of course, I'm just saying I'd need to scrape together a few more bucks first before I tried that.

Day 11

Everything is going really smooth here guys, the hardest part is just waiting :grinjoint:

Plant 1 is looking very healthy and just keeps adding on sets of leaves! :slide:

Plant 2 is also looking healthy still just a little bit behind #1, but I'm ok with that :grinjoint:

I'll be giving the girls their 3rd watering tomorrow and also be giving them 1/4 strength FF Big Bloom and see how they react to that. I still need to go out and pick up Tiger Bloom before these girls start to flower.
