Which light to use?

This is a somewhat hard comparison... Just from the half sentence you've given the CFL is putting out more watts, but the 150 HPS will have a better lumen to watt ratio and more canopy penetration. It's a toss up, can you use both?

What are the lumens output by each light? How much heat does each put out....
Also, is the CFL actually a 300 watt or an equivalent wattage?
My 85 watt CFL's are equilalent to a 300 watt incandescent bulb. They put out about 4200 lumens. My 150 watt HPS puts out 16,000 lumens.
So I need four of the CFL's to match the HPS's output in lumens. Twice the electrical use, to get the same amount of lumens. Though the HPS puts out a lot more heat than the CFL's.

i usually do outdoor grows so im pretty new to indoor growing with lights etc... the cfl is 300w and isnt equivalent, but with it being dual spectrum it will be giving out both blue and red spectrum where as the hps will be giving out just red - dont no if this makes a difference in flowering, also cant use both of them becasue of expenses and room. after a lot of reading i think im goin go for the hps any thoughts let us no and thanks for the replys, dont no wot id do without 420 mag haha nice 1

You're pretty much always going to be better off with HID..what size is your grow space?
