Why is marijuana illegal, even though there is no harm in smoking it?

:hmmmm:That question has many correct answers the one i think is most important is that the plant is worth money and it is very easy to grow a lot with out paying taxes on your harvest.Second is also the same it can help those financially strapped to get around the system and improve there life and bank account.Third is racially motivated along with the first two.History teaches us that cannabis was the only crop that African Americans were able to use to buy there freedom and that did scare a lot of people who believed in lies.

because... popular legal use of cannabis and cannabis products would wipe out the pharmaceutical industry, the cotton industry, the paper industry and put a big dent in many others. People using psychotropic drugs also tend to think for themselves and not quietly accept the restraints that government puts on them, so its popular recreational use must be discouraged at all costs.

It can be argued that if Henry Ford in 1926 would have been allowed to continue his development of the Hemp based car using Hemp plastics, fabrics and a motor that ran on freshly squeezed hemp seed oil, we never would have had the great depression or an oil crisis. He was put out of business with the Government's prohibition on hemp, solely to prop up GM, big Oil and Dupont.

Ultimately Pot and Hemp are illegal because the government needed to prop up the oil industry, big pharma, cotton and paper, and stop the production of an automobile that would wipe out Detroit. It has nothing to do with whether or not pot is good or harmful to you.

Could write a book on the subject. Any way some government idiot in the 1930s decided jazz was the music that lured white women to black men and weed was a way black men could get sex from a white woman. It was a different time where white men didn't like that. So instead of hanging black men thay hit them where it hurt most. Screwed with there music, there women and there way to get away from a nasty world

Because most of the time the majority of people wanted it illegal.
Fear. Liability issues. Once you introduce the idea of someone else’s kid getting stoned on some mysterious stuff that makes them think differently - well that’s bad. As soon as you become somehow liable because you’re in a position of responsibility over this person, and they might cause an accident at your job site or crash their car or get pregnant or get weird ideas and dress funny - well nobody wants to be responsible for that kind of stuff. So play it safe- pass the buck to the cops and the legal system - it’s just easier.

Once mass public opinion swings far enough that it can be easily legalized instead of demonized - then that’s good too- legalize it and make a profit. As long as you don’t take much risk and lose votes it’s all good.

And it’s not true to say there’s no harm in smoking it. As much as we like it here- it’s not without a few problems.

The government runs on taxation my friend... if they can find a way to motivate people against a common enemy then they can justify their taxes on the people. Korea, Vietnam, drug war, and now Covid 19... anything goes. That's why God crucified Jesus between a murderer and a thief... he stood up for taxation.

Peace :lot-o-toke:
