2014 Soil 1st Attempt: NLxSkunk - Dynamite

Hello 420!

A few weeks ago I finally decided to bite the bullit and have a go at producing my own meds. So I invested my Christmas bonus in a small set up.

I hadn't even thought about starting a journal, but from the hours I have spent reading journals on your forum I realise how useful they are - not just for me but also for others growing in similar conditions. I've found every time I search the net for information I always end up on your forums, so thought this would be the best place to start.

So, I'm into week 1 on 12/12 now, but I'll go from the start:

250w digital mh / hps
0.5m2 space, 1.75m high
5" fan and filter
2 x 10l air pots
Lightly fertilized organic soil
PM oldtimer organic grow / bloom
2x seeds

RH - anywhere from 25 to 50%
Temp - on 80-82, off 68-70. Coldest night got to 65 but this was a once off.

1x WOS Skunk#1 x NL
1x Next Gen Dynamite

Things didn't get off to a good start. I didn't think and watered them with water direct from the tap for the first 2 weeks, which this time of year is pretty damn cold! This caused lockout (I'm guessing) and lower leaves started turning brown and crispy. Growth was very slow and I pretty much wasted 2 weeks of veg. The other seed took much longer to sprout and got burnt by a cfl that crashed into it one morning. Things got better though..

They started under a couple 25w cfl's, and moved on to the 250w mh for veg, and are now under 250w dual spec HPS for flower - I have a son t plus aswell I could swap to, although people are getting good results with the dual spec it seems. Temps are 2-3 deg higher with the dual spec, so might see if the son t runs cooler.

I started feeding 2ml/l grow for the last 2 weeks before switching to 12/12. Plants responded well and are drinking water fast. Going through 2-3L each and pots are very light again 48hrs later. I've upped that to 3ml/L now + 4ml/L root stim and will continue this for the first 2 weeks of 12/12.

Its about 5 weeks since I fixed the temp issue, so ~ 7 weeks total, today is day 5 of 12/12. Preflowers formed on both a few days before switching. Here's some pics up until now (earliest first):

Another update, not that much interest has been taken.. I think we are in day 12 since switching light cycle.

Do you folks think they look healthy? I wasn't sure about trimming leaves / branches, there seems to be mixed views on this, but my horizontal space is filling up and I'm not expecting much light getting to lower branches.

Any advice appreciated

Am growing SK/NL myself. Your pictures look identical to mine.....Is my 1st grow also. Looks like everything is going great. Take a look at my journal and you'll see how close the pictures resemble each other!

Keep on Growing! :bravo:

I just did a defol on my plants & will let you know how it works out. I took off everything that was blocking light to the bud sites & all of the popcorn growth sites from the lower branches. I definitely concentrated more on opening the plants up in the middle, because that is where most of the light blockage was occurring.

Hello all! Just a quick update, 3 weeks exactly since the switch now. How do they look? I did a little trimming of the undergrowth today just before watering - only the thin / pale lower leaves and branches that weren't getting any light. Made watering much much easier!

Day 28 of flowering update:

I can't believe I've got this far! So far so good it seems, apart from being a little late on watering the NLxSkunk once or twice. After reading a little on your thread (SABO), I think I may have been under watering. Especially as I loose a little out the holes in the airports too! Anyway here's some photos:

I am noticing some of the pistils are beginning to turn orange / brown. I thought this might be a little early? All else seems good as far a I can tell though (remember this is my first grow).

*edit*

I meant to add, the smell from the dynamite is really starting to pick up, a wonderful fruity, fuel like smell. The NLxSkunk has a much more sweet smell, though its very subtle in comparison.

I hear you about the watering! PeeJay brought that to my attention and in 2 days my plants jumped by 2 inches! It's the little things that you really have to pay attention to! I thought I was watering properly (Yeah, 1st mistake!). PeeJay is awesome to hook up with and is a complete botanist in my opinion! Take some time to look at his journals, they are worth the read.

+ Reps for the Bud Porn! I may post some of my Bud Porn tomorrow.
