Good morning 420,
I'm a rookie at the growing. I've known the finished product since 74. Any advice is most welcome.
My question is at six weeks old I'm seeing little white hairs on 2 of my first grow are they big enough to switch to 12/12

They were probably mature enough to switch to 12/12 a while ago. They are sexually mature when you see those first pistils and even as the nodes started alternating, sometime after the 5th node. You can choose to veg photoperiod plants as long as you like after this, and this looks like a good place to switch to bloom, realizing that they may double in size by the end of the second week in bloom.

Please see this photograph which show the defined areas of the early female cannabis pref flower.

When your cannabis plant is sexually mature and ready to flower the plant shall display these at the upper new growth areas adjacent to the nodes on the plants branches and stem.

If a immature plant is forced to flower both the the growth and harvested quantity are stunted.
