No offense meant, just kidding. I am newcomer so i do not feel entitled to give you any advice but from what i have read, small fan is perfect tool to strenghten the stems so i think what you are doing makes sense.

If you are growing in soil and want to strengthen stems and make the plant hardier for outdoor growing (or indoor), add a 1/4 cup of DE to your soil and mix it in well.

You can also add in a silica supplement. And brush the tops of your canopy with your fingers as you go by, simulate them being pushed by a gust. As long as you're not in flower obviously. That's a bit old school though.
